New Hyundai Santro likely to offer a modern exterior and a fairly spacious interior
By now, it has become fairly well known that the Hyundai Santro is about to make a comeback in an all-new avatar. The new-generation Santro is expected to launch this year and will make its official debut at the fast-approaching Auto Expo 2018. First launched here in 1998, the tallboy remained in production till 2014. On the other hand, its main rival, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, saw a generation change and remains in production. Now, with the second-generation Santro on its way, it looks like Hyundai is about to create quite a storm in the entry-level car market. Of course, the second-gen car will be completely new, inside and out. Here is a speculative rendering that shows how the new Hyundai Santro will look like-
Based on the spy shots, the above rendering shows a modern-looking hatchback that has a tallboy design. Bits like the Hexagonal grille up front give this car a typical modern-day Hyundai look. As can be seen, the car will offer a pretty wide DLO. The large greenhouse and the tallboy architecture should translate into an airy interior. Spy shots have revealed that the interior will be fairly upmarket and will boast of bits like a dashboard-mounted touchscreen infotainment system.
There are good chances that the new Hyundai Santro launch date will fall bang in the middle of this year’s Diwali season. A festive season launch should give the new car a good start due to the higher car sales. The new model Santro will likely replace the Eon in the company’s product portfolio for India. Prices are expected to start at Rs 4 lakh and go all the way to Rs 5.5 lakh for the top-end model.
While exact Specifications will be revealed at the car’s debut, our sources inform us that the new car will offer a 1000cc petrol engine. Production of this engine has already started at HMIL’s Tamil Nadu facility. These engines will be used to carry out real-world testing of the prototypes of the upcoming budget hatchback. The upcoming new Hyundai Santro will become the first Hyundai car in India to offer AMT. A Diesel engine option looks highly unlikely. However, the 1.0-litre mill should offer a pretty high mileage.
Not much more is currently known about the new car. However, you can safely expect us to update you with more details as soon as we get our hands on some. Hence, stay tuned for the latest news updates on the Hyundai Santro 2018 model.
