Hyundai recently rolled out the new Grand i10 NIOS that comes across as a great value proposition. The new model holds some clear advantages over Tata Tiago, Tata Punch, Maruti Swift and Citroen C3
The new Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS is among the most popular products in our price-conscious market. The Grand i10 NIOS moniker has been around for many years and it is a household name. But Hyundai Motor India has ensured that the product retains its freshness and appeal by offering constant upgrades to the popular mid-size hatchback. For instance, in the recent iteration, the design of the vehicle was further enhanced by incorporating some modern elements like a sleek headlight cluster and Y-shaped LED DRLs/fog lamps on the bumper. The Grand i10 NIOS is certainly among the most sporty-looking cars in its class but that’s not the only reason for its popularity. The B-segment hatchback offers more than all its rivals on almost all counts. Don’t believe us? Read on.

Specs
Another key area where the Grand i10 NIOS displays its prominence compared to the rivals like the Maruti Swift, Citroen C3, Tata Punch and Tata Tiago is the options of varied powertrains including smooth petrol and a powerful yet economical CNG. Also, While the C3, Punch and Tiago have 3-cylinder petrol engines with inherent vibrations attached to the operation, the 4-cylinder VTVT engine of the Grand i10 NIOS is particularly smooth and refined. Moreover, it offers slightly higher torque than Swift, Tiago and Punch. There’s even an automatic transmission on offer on the petrol model, which certainly makes short work of driving in rush hour traffic.
Features
Hyundai has always been a pioneer of bringing in segment-first features in all their models. No surprise, then, that even the Grand i10 NIOS comes brimming with equipment that’s completely conspicuous by its absence in all its rivals. For instance, no other vehicle in this segment offers 6 airbags even in their top variants. Moreover, all its rivals offer 2 airbags as standard while the Grand i10 NIOS has 4 standard airbags. Also, two useful and exclusive features on the Grand i10 NIOS include TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) and Wireless Charging. These enhance safety as well as convenience.

Apart from that, the Grand i10 NIOS has a larger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display compared to the 7-inch unit of most its rivals. That offers a slightly more premium in-cabin feel and makes things easier to read on the larger screen. Boosting the convenience even further, the Grand i10 NIOS has Hill Assist Control that is only available in the Swift among all its rivals. It also has a cooled glovebox which only the Tata Punch has. Finally, Grand i10 NIOS offers the comfort of Cruise Control which is unavailable in C3 or Tiago. Overall, the latest Grand i10 NIOS offers so many more safety and comfort-enhancing features that it makes the arch rivals feel spartan in comparison.
Price
No, all that additional equipment or the fantastic 1.2-litre Kappa engine doesn’t translate into a higher price. In fact, the new Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS is quite aggressively priced and undercuts most of the competition. The hatchback currently retails between Rs 5.68 lakh and Rs 8.46 lakh*, which makes the new model better priced than Maruti Swift (Rs 5.99 lakh – Rs 8.98 lakh*) and Tata Punch (Rs 6 lakh – Rs 9.54 lakh*). While it’s priced slightly higher than the Tata Tiago (Rs 5.54 lakh – Rs 8.05 lakh) and Citroen C3 (Rs 5.98 lakh – Rs 8.25 lakh), it offers a lot more on various fronts. All in all, the new Grand i10 NIOS clearly comes across as a great amalgamation of Safety, Economy and Comfort!
