Hyundai working on a compact SUV smaller than the Creta
Hyundai is reportedly working on an all-new compact SUV for the Indian market to rival the likes of the Ford EcoSport. The news comes in soon after Hyundai’s MPV plans were revealed and test mules were snapped on our roads as the Korean auto giant wants to enter new segments. The Hyundai Creta was expected to be priced competitively enough to rival the likes of the EcoSport, but that is not the case and that is another reason why Hyundai wants a new product to slot in below the Creta and above the i20 Active. The manufacturer is still toying with the idea and is unlikely to come out with a product before the end of 2016. We bring ou all the information on the new Hyundai Compact SUV India launch, price, pics, specs, features and details.

New Hyundai Compact SUV India Launch
The compact SUV will not make it India at least until the end of 2016. A launch earlier than that is unlikely considering there haven’t been any spottings of camouflaged test mules.
New Hyundai Compact SUV India Price
The new Hyundai Compact SUV will be a direct rival to the Ford EcoSport and will come with similar pricing in the INR 7-10 lakh range. However, there might be price overlap with the base variants of the Creta.

New Hyundai Compact SUV India – Specs
Since the vehicle will be a sub 4 meter offering it is expected to get the 1.2 litre petrol and 1.4 litre diesel from Hyundai i20/Active. The 1.2 litre petrol produces 81 bhp and the 1.4 litre diesel is good for 89 bhp. It is also being reported that Hyundai could use the i20‘s platform or a modified version of the Grand i10‘s platform for the new compact SUV. They might also consider using the Creta’s platform, but that could prove to be a tad too expensive. Expect high levels of component sharing with multiple Hyundai models.

Mr Dave Zuchovski, CEO, Hyundai Motors America, said that the Creta will not make it to the US and Hyundai is, instead, working on an all-new compact SUV. However, it is unclear whether there is any connection between that and the vehicle headed to India. Once the compact SUV is launched it will be positioned between the i20 Active and Creta. Another SUV Hyundai is planning to launch this year is the Tuscon, which will be brought in to fill the gap between the Creta and the Santa Fe. Expect the Tuscon to be on display at the 2016 Auto Expo in February accompanied by other models.
