In a bizarre series of events, a brand new Hyundai i20 has faced an engine seizure, which means the motor has to be replaced by the service centre. This is something you don’t get to hear too often. We have seen some vehicles in the past that generally have many problems related to the engine or components. But this doesn’t generally happen with Hyundai products. Cars like the Hyundai i20 have been around for a while now and not many customers have had such complaints. However, this did happen with an i20 customer in Bangalore. He had bought the Sportz variant with a CVT transmission and driven a mere 1,400 km. To know that the engine has failed so early on came as a shock to the owner and rightly so. Here are the details of this weird incident.

New Hyundai i20 Engine Problems
Hardly driven for 1,400 km, the new Hyundai i20 refused to start. The owner called the Hyundai Service Centre and the technician arrived to check the car. After having completed a thorough inspection, he declared that all the parts of the engine are working normally. This included the Battery, Starter Motor, Fuses, Relays, Fuel Pressure Intake, Blockage in Intake and Exhaust Pipes, Spark Plugs, Physical Wire Cuts, Grounding, etc. All these basic components were working properly. The technician, also surprised, asked the owner to take the vehicle to the service centre through a tow truck. The owner utilized the RSA (Road Side Assistance) service and got the car to the workshop. What came as an even bigger shock to everyone revealed that i20 has experienced engine failure. This was diagnosed in the service center.

The customer had a bunch of complaints regarding the entire incident. First of all, he asked for a flatbed tow truck so that the car doesn’t get damaged in the commute and could be transported easily. But the service centre sent a contraption of a towing vehicle in the form of a Tata Ace fixed with a towing mechanism. It required the front axle to be towed which could have caused damage to the vehicle, especially to the axle. The customer also demands that the engine should be replaced without any cost as there is a manufacturing defect. Also, the dealer has quoted an estimated time of one month for the engine replacement. In the meanwhile, Hyundai should arrange something for the customer. This could be a car that the owner could use for one month.
