Honda has finally taken the wraps off its new-gen Amaze compact sedan which will rival the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor
In this post, I shall compare the new Honda Amaze with the Hyundai Aura on the basis of specs, price, features, design and safety. The new Amaze takes things forward in the compact sedan segment despite tough competition from the compact SUVs. First launched in 2013, the Amaze has been able to do decently well on the sales charts for over a decade. Now, in its latest 3rd-generation version, it is better than ever. On the other hand, the Hyundai Aura has been a prominent product in this space too. It has found application among private, as well as commercial fleet owners. For now, let us glance into the details of this comparison.
New Honda Amaze vs Hyundai Aura – Price
The new Honda Amaze is on sale in 3 variants – V, VX and ZX. The prices start at Rs 8 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 10.90 lakh, ex-showroom. Note that these are introductory prices valid for 45 days from the launch. With this, the new Amaze also becomes the most affordable vehicle with ADAS in the country. On the other hand, the Hyundai Aura retails between Rs 6.49 lakh and Rs 9.05 lakh, ex-showroom. Hence, the Aura has a clear edge in this aspect but it is also the older of the two.

New Honda Amaze vs Hyundai Aura – Specs
The new compact sedan comes with the same powertrain and transmission option as the outgoing trim. It gets an E20-compatible 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine which produces the best-in-segment 90 PS of peak power and 110 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties are carried out by a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. The official mileage figures are 18.65 km/l and 19.46 km/l, respectively. It has a ground clearance of 172 mm. This should allow owners to glide over most undulations on the road. The turning radius is 4.7 m. Hence, buyers get the convenience of an automatic gearbox.
On the other hand, the Hyundai Aura possesses a familiar 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol mill which produces a cool 83 PS and 113.8 Nm of peak power and torque. There are options of selecting a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The mileage figure revolves around 17 km/l for both versions. Apart from that, the Aura is also available in a CNG avatar which generates 69 PS and 95.2 Nm of peak power and torque. This version is solely available with a 5-speed manual transmission. It boasts a mileage of 22 km/kg. In essence, buyers get all sorts of options to choose from, depending on their requirements.

Design and Dimensions Comparison
This is where the two vehicles differ significantly. The new Honda Amaze embodies the design philosophy of its elder siblings – City and Elevate. The front fascia consists of a sleek LED headlamp unit with integrated LED DRLs and a chrome slab connecting the two sides. In the middle, there is a huge grille with a chrome frame on the edges and the Honda logo at the centre. Lower down, the new Amaze houses fog lamps in an elegant panel and the sporty bumper rounds off the front section. On the sides, there are stylish 15-inch alloy wheels with black side pillars and chrome door handles. Completing the exterior look, there are slim LED taillamps, a shark fin antenna and a chrome belt connecting the taillights at the rear. All in all, the new Amaze certainly boasts an enhanced external appearance.
On the other hand, the Hyundai Aura is, essentially, the sedan iteration of the Grand i10 Nios. Hence, we see the flowing LED headlamp cluster with a slim black section in the middle at the front along with LED DRLs and a prominent grille section down below. The DRLs double up as turn indicators. The side profile contains black elements around the window frame which ooze sportiness while the stylish alloy wheels elevate its stance and road presence. Finally, the tail end showcases a dedicated spoiler on the boot lid with a connected LED taillamp cluster, a contoured rear bumper and other sporty bits to lend it an imposing road presence. Both these cars have their individual identities.

My View
Choosing between these two can be quite tricky. On the one hand, we have the brand-new Honda Amaze. It is the latest iteration which is why the Japanese car marque offers so many new-age features including the segment-first ADAS. The powertrain and transmission options are tried and tested and even the introductory prices are quite attractive. On the other hand, the Hyundai Aura has been a decent vehicle for a long time now. It is popular among private, as well as commercial owners. However, it is due for a thorough facelift. Therefore, if you want the latest vehicle and have a flexible budget, the new Amaze should be on your radar. However, if you are on a tight budget or looking for a CNG option, the Aura is the one to go. In any case, you can’t go wrong with either of these.
