There are two primary guesses of what Honda could be launching under the Big Wing dealer network – Honda’s updated 500cc range or a potential cruiser-styled Royal Enfield rival based on the Rebel 300.
Honda Motorcycles India have announced that they are going to launch a brand new motorcycle on September 30 in India. There were no details about the motorcycle with the announcement and that leaves us thinking what could this new motorcycle be. The teaser also had the Honda BigWing logo which clearly indicates that this upcoming motorcycle is more than a commuter and something premium. So let’s explore the possibilities of what Honda has in store for us for a launch on September 30.
First up, it is already well known that Honda has been working on a potential rival to a Royal Enfield in India for some time and this indeed could be the motorcycle that’s launching at the end of this month. Going by reports, this will be a never before seen motorcycle, designed specifically for our market. If its a potential Royal Enfield rival, a cruiser-styled motorcycle based on something like the Honda Rebel 300 could very well be on the cards. It also remains to be seen if this new motorcycle is based on an all-new platform or if it uses a modified version of something already sold overseas.
Honda did something similar with the recently launched Hornet 2.0 that’s based on the international Honda CB190R, but with significant changes for our market. The other possibility is the launch of Honda’s much awaited new 500cc range in India. That includes the Honda CBR500R, CB500X, CB500F and the Rebel 500. If its Honda’s new 500cc range, then it will surely come as a huge surprise. Although there were rumors about Honda launching their new 500cc range in India by late 2020, that was a pre-Covid-19 timeline.

In the current scenario, the launch will most likely be pushed to early 2021. However, Honda’s 500cc range has already been updated to comply with the Euro-5 emission norms and they could very well be brought to the country right away. Honda might launch their new 500cc range in India as CKD units initially to test the response, before going ahead with their plan to localize the motorcycles in India to bring the costs down. Honda’s 500cc range is an extremely versatile group of motorcycles, of which, the CB500X is particularly greatly suited for India.

Our last guess is that this new motorcycle could be Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade. Honda has already commenced bookings for the Fireblade across India and this too could be in the cards. Whatever the motorcycle, it will be retailed out of the Honda Big Wing dealer network. The Big Wing network is Honda’s premium products dealership network and this new motorcycle will apparently be the most affordable motorcycle sold from it. Does that cancel out the Fireblade already? Nevermind, the options are pretty exiting too.
