There’s a brand new 300cc (or more) adventure motorcycle coming from Hero which we expect will be launched in 2021. Hero showed off the prototype concept at the Hero World 2020 event.
Back in February, Hero showcased a brand new concept 300cc (or more) adventure motorcycle at the 2020 Hero World Event. This concept was however without any body work at the time, leaving the chassis, engine and underpinning completely exposed. Hero is still yet to put a body around this motorcycle but this could very well be the answer to what the Xpulse 200 lacks currently. We suspect this motorcycle carry over the same off-roading prowess from the Xpulse but will have much better touring credentials. Let’s look at it in a little more detail to understand what we can expect from this upcoming ADV.
This new Hero ADV will be powered by a liquid-cooled, single cylinder motor (a first for Hero). Hero hasn’t revealed exact specifications of the engine with power, torque and displacement figures. However, they have said that the motor will displace more than 300cc. Its also unlikely to be above 400cc. From an engine of this size. we expect the motor to produce well above 30 bhp. Hero says that the priority is to produce healthy usable power from the engine. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed gearbox and the gearing is expected to suit the on/off-road applications of the motorcycle.
Coming to that red chassis again, its a steel trellis unit with a bolt-on subframe. The motorcycle uses USD fork at the front and a link-type monoshock at the rear. There seems to be good enough suspension travel at both ends and that should make for a pretty capable touring/off-road motorcycle. It also gets tube-type wire-spoke wheels and Hero says that they can equip it with either a 19-inch or 21-inch front end. That hints at the possibility of two model lines. The display prototype was seen wearing knobby tires but the production motorcycle will come with more road-friendly tires.

For braking duties, the concept motorcycle came with Bybre sourced, radially-mounted calipers at the front and a single piston Bybre at the rear. The motorcycle will get ABS as standard and we expect it will be switchable at the rear. This prototype model only previewed the underpinnings and the mechanical components. Hero still hasn’t said anything about the looks of this motorcycle, equipment list on offer or even the seat height. However, they have said that it will be a priority to keep the ergonomics accessible to shorter riders as reasonably possible within the confines of the design and intention of the motorcycle.

This motorcycle is still sometime away before it actually makes it on the road. We are expecting a launch sometime in the second half of 2021 but we shall have more information on the motorcycle prior to that too. This motorcycle is essentially meant to take on the recently launched KTM 390 Adventure and BMW G310 GS. It has the potential to be a great middle-weight machine with great off-road ability. And this being a Hero, we expect the prices to be competitive as well, possibly at just over Rs 2 lakh, ex-showroom.
