The new generation Mahindra Thar, set to launch in India during the year 2020, has been spotted testing under heavy camouflage for the first time. The spy images reveal that the new iteration of this lifestyle 4×4 is going to be wider, longer and bigger in comparison to the outgoing model.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar is likely to use the same new-age ladder frame chassis which we saw on the recently launched Mahindra Marazzo. The new frame and chassis will be in line with the upcoming safety norms. It will meet the front offset, side impact and pedestrian protection regulations.
With this generation update, in addition to complying with the safety norms, the Mahindra Thar is also going to possess better features and creature comforts. Expect the 4×4 to come with equipment such as a proper climate control unit as well as an infotainment system. Mahindra is likely to improve the Thar’s driving dynamics as well as its ride quality.

Though it would be too early to comment on, we feel that Mahindra is going to ditch the current powertrain of the Thar. The new generation iteration of this vehicle is going to come with an all-new diesel engine which is going to comply with the upcoming BS-Vi emission regulations.

Mahindra could employ the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine in its BS-VI guise which made its debut in India with the all-new Marazzo MPV. The said engine is capable of churning out 120 BHP of power along with 300 Nm of peak torque. It gets a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.
Talking about the prices, expect them to fall somewhere in-between the range of INR 6.5 lakh to 10 lakh.
