Hyundai has debuted the all-new Elantra globally which gets a very distinct design, more tech and new interiors and even a hybrid powertrain. Its expected to come to India by end of 2021.
Hyundai has debuted an all-new generation of the Elantra sedan globally. The new Hyundai Elantra comes with a swanky new design, a new platform, more features and new powertrain options as well which even includes a hybrid. The new Elantra will make it to India in 2021. Let’s look at it in a little more detail.
The new Elantra is based on Hyundai’s new ‘Parametric Dynamics’ design language and its quite a striking design. The face is dominated by a rather huge ‘cascading grille’ which then merges with the headlight. In fact, the grille comprises about 80% of the front and even extends to the lowermost part of the bumper. The side profile is characterized by very aggressive lines along the doors. The new sedan perhaps looks the most attractive from the rear profile. There’s an LED bar connecting the sleek tail lamps and like the rest of the car, the rear is also characterized by very sharp lines and a distinctive spoiler.
The new Elantra sits on a new K3 platform, and just by first glance, you can tell that it is significantly larger than the model it replaces. It is longer, wider, and also sits lower than before. Hyundai claims the new platform takes the centre of gravity down and is lighter, giving it better dynamics. Hyundai has also revised the suspension geometry and mounting points for increased agility.
Under the hood, the new Elantra is powered by a 2.0-liter petrol engine that produces 147PS and 178Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a CVT gearbox. The bigger news is a new 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine which also features a hybrid setup. The engine combined with the electric motor has a total output of 139PS and 264Nm of twist. This hybird setup comes mated to a 6-speed DCT gearbox. Hyundai claims the hybrid powertrain is capable of delivering a combined fuel economy figure of 21 kmpl.
The interiors of the new Hyundai Elantra have been completely refreshed as well. The new design is minimalistic and very aesthetically pulled off. There’s a new all-digital instrument cluster which merges with the infotainment system screen through a single panel. There’s a new four-spoke steering wheel like we saw in the new Creta and the slim AC vents accentuate the minimalistic design approach. The entire layout is also more oriented towards the driver with a large grab handle in the middle of the center console and the tilted infotainment screen. The rest of the switch gear including the AC controls and gear lever are pretty typical Hyundai.
