The large luxury SUV has been undergoing extensive testing in India for a long time now

The upcoming new-gen Skoda Kodiaq was recently spotted testing on India roads without any camouflage. It has been on test for a while now. In fact, I have reported multiple occasions of the luxury SUV on our roads in the last few weeks. This points to the fact that we might see the launch pretty soon. India is the biggest market for the Czech car marque outside Europe. Hence, it wants to leave no stone unturned to cater to all kinds of buyers in our market. Its mass-market products based on the heavily localized MQB A0 IN platform have done well on the sales charts. Now, Skoda wants to address the other end of the spectrum.

The specifics of this latest sighting stem from driftxp_ on Instagram. The visuals capture the luxury SUV plying on public roads without any covering. This is a unique strategy adopted by the Czech auto giant to reveal the exterior of the SUV prior to the launch. In these images, we are able to have a thorough look at the side and rear profiles of the upcoming SUV. The tail section consists of a split-LED taillamp cluster, a shark fin antenna, a roof-mounted spoiler, a sporty bumper with black elements, a dark grey belt connecting the taillamps and a chrome strip running the width of the bumper with reflector lights on the extreme edges. On the sides, there are prominent wheel arches and elegant alloy wheels. I believe it will bear an imposing road presence due to its size and styling.

Apart from that, if we take a look at the international model, we can list out the main highlights of the interior as well. The SUV will surely come with premium materials and the latest gadgets and gizmos to pamper the occupants. Some of these functionalities include a 10- or 13-inch Freestanding Touchscreen Infotainment Display, a 10-inch Digital Instrument Cluster, an optional Head-up Display, Three Physical Dials on the Centre Console with 32 mm Colour Displays, a Panoramic Sunroof, 340-litre Boot Space with All Three Rows Up, 910-litre Boot Space with Third Row Folded, Automatic Climate Control and more.

Specs and Price

In terms of the specifications, while the international trim comes with all sorts of engine options including hybrid mills, I reckon the Indian-spec avatar will carry on with the same 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol powertrain that the previous-gen model also possessed. The power and torque outputs will most likely be 190 hp and 320 Nm, respectively. This mill will pair with the legendary 7-speed DSG transmission which is there in many VW-Skoda vehicles. To enhance the off-roading capabilities, it will get an all-wheel-drive configuration. However, since it will be a CBU model, the prices could be north of Rs 50 lakh, ex-showroom. This will put it amongst the eminent German rivals.
