The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift has been tested by JNCAP (Japan New Car Assessment Program). I have been following the news of the new Swift for a few months now after it was launched in Japan. Thereafter, it came to the UK and Ireland. Finally, India is set to get the new generation model of one of the highest-selling cars in our market ever. However, the past record about its safety rating has not been ideal. With the new-gen model, we can expect a few changes to that. For now, let us see how well it performed on the JNCAP testing.

New-Gen Maruti Swift at JNCAP
This video comes from Cruise Control Global on YouTube. The visuals capture the crash tests of the hatchback. They start with a frontal collision at 55 km/h. The damage to the body and dummies is recorded and analyzed. Note that the Japanese version of the Swift also gets active safety features. Hence, in the subsequent procedure, they are put to the test. The vehicle is slowly driven up to the backside of the car. The autonomous braking system takes charge once the vehicle is too close and brings it to a standstill. This is done even in reverse movement. Thereafter, the vehicle is driven at 50 km/h and a bicyclist suddenly appears on the road.
Again, the car senses this via the sensors and the system applies hard braking to prevent the collision. Subsequently, the Swift is being driven at 60 km/h behind a bicyclist and the system brakes the car once it gets too close. There are also cases of pedestrians appearing on the road from behind parked cars randomly. Each time, the electronics of the car were able to apply brakes timely. This also includes driving during the nighttime. The vehicle is also testing for lane-keeping assist and frontal side collision at 64 km/h. This JNCAP test concludes with the side collision test at 55 km/h. After that, the pedestrian safety tests were conducted. The overall result was a decent 4 stars.

Author’s Note
Swift is about to make its arrival in our country soon. This time around, there will be mechanical changes including a new Z-Series engine replacing the current K-Series mill. Apart from that, the aesthetic and feature enhancements will be there too. I am eagerly waiting to get my hands on the new Swift to know how different it will be to drive compared to the current model. Having a decent JNCAP score is a huge positive for Swift lovers. We shall have to see if it will be able to replicate this performance at Bharat NCAP.
