The new-gen Kia Carnival was recently spotted testing without any camouflage. Kia is a mighty successful Korean carmaker in India. It started its India operations with the Seltos mid-size SUV back in 2019. Soon thereafter, the Sonet compact SUV was launched in 2020. These two brought immense success to the brand making it one of the best foreign carmakers in the country within a short span of time. Once the brand was established, Kia attempted to cater to the premium MPV segment with the Carnival in 2020. It was discontinued last year. Now, the new-gen model is about to arrive soon.
New-Gen Kia Carnival Spied
This post comes from autojournal_india on Instagram. The visuals capture the premium MPV undisguised, which is pretty unusual. It bears the red registration plate which signifies that this is a test mule. But we are able to witness the vehicle completely. At the front, it gets a broad grille with chrome inserts, prominent 7-shaped LED DRLs, vertically aligned LED headlamps, a sporty bumper and a rugged skid plate. The overall silhouette and the stance resemble the old-gen model to me. I also feel that the fascia is in line with the latest Seltos and Sonet.
At the rear, we get to witness the sheer length of the MPV. It is among the longer vehicles in the segment. Also, in typical MPV fashion, it sports sliding doors. The alloy wheels are elegant and it gets roof rails for a sportier appearance. At the rear, one gets to witness the shark fin antenna, connected LED taillamps, a sturdy skid plate and a roof-mounted spoiler. All in all, the silhouette reminds us of the previous generation model while the modern bits help distinguish it from it vividly.
Our View
Kia Carnival has been able to carve out a niche for itself in the Indian market. I believe that such vehicles are not inherently in demand in a market like ours. Therefore, the sales numbers are not too decent in absolute terms. Still, people are opening up to experimenting with new kinds of vehicles. In any case, making a case for a roomy and opulent MPV like the Carnival is not all that difficult. We shall have to wait to see if the new-gen Kia Carnival is able to entice more customers than the last-gen unit.
