Ford India’s return to manufacturing cars can commence with the new-gen Endeavour. Ever since Ford quit its operations in India in September 2021, loyal fans have been asking it to come back. Over its existence in India, it incurred operational losses worth a jaw-dropping $2 billion in just the last decade. Hence, they had to leave the country. They still have one production facility in Chennai. Its other manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat has already been acquired by Tata Passenger Electric Mobility for Rs 725 Crore.

Speculations
Since Ford refuses to sell its production house, it is possible that we might see it make a comeback in our market. There could be two avenues it could follow. It could either strictly manufacture cars and engines to export to international markets, or it could additionally also consider selling some models in the Indian market. Prior to exiting the country, it was selling Figo, Freestyle, Aspire, Ecosport, Endeavour and Mustang. Going forward, it could concentrate on just the Endeavour, which was among the most successful SUVs in its class in India since time immemorial. Additionally, it could expand its SUV or pickup truck portfolio with something like a Raptor too. Hence, these products could resurrect the brand in one of the biggest automobile markets globally.

Author’s Note
Ford is one of the most prominent automakers in the world. It has been selling cars for over a century. Its name is synonymous with reliability, performance and safety across various international markets. It’s a shame it wasn’t able to replicate its success in India. Nevertheless, since it still offers extended warranty and servicing in the country and already has a production plant, it is not beyond the scope of possibility that it could make a massive comeback. This time around, however, it should really concentrate on generating high revenues and maximizing profits from the cars it knows will sell in high numbers.
