The new Ford EcoSport has been rendered by a prominent digital automobile artist. We know that EcoSport was one of the most popular and successful compact SUVs in our market. In fact, it is the product which incepted this segment to begin with. People bought it like hotcakes until intense competition arrived. In September 2021, Ford quit manufacturing cars in India. However, by then, the sales of the EcoSport were already low. In recent months, we have heard a lot of rumours about Ford making a comeback in our market. Hence, a new Ford EcoSport could be on the cards as well.
New Ford EcoSport
Note that the patent of the design sketches for the Ford EcoSport successor was filed in India recently. That fuelled the speculations about the SUV to launch in India once Ford commences its operations here again. Based on these sketches, there have been many renderings. The one we are seeing here includes a bold front end with a huge grille adorned with chrome markings. This grille is flanked by LED DRLs which bear a stacked appearance. The LED headlamps are, sort of, concealed on the extreme edges of the bumper in a vertical orientation. That is something we have seen in many modern cars.
Underneath the bumper, there is a sporty splitter which is painted in a gloss black colour. On the sides, the wheel arches are well-pronounced. The striking alloy wheels fill up the wheel arches rather smartly. Apart from that, we even get to see a solid side body cladding which elevates the rugged nature of the SUV. The side pillars are black and so is the roof to offer that floating roof effect. Finally, the tail section looks muscular with a wrap-around taillamp design and sturdy bumper. All in all, if something like this were to make it to production, it would definitely entice buyers looking for a compact SUV with a noticeable road presence.
Our View
Ford is showing signs of making a comeback in our market. Recently, we saw the new Everest (Endeavour) and Raptor pickup truck on the back of a flatbed truck. In fact, in one instance, the latter was also seen at a Mahindra factory. Perhaps, that could have something to do with a potential joint venture which fell through the last time. Ford and Mahindra were supposed to be working together on new SUVs before the pandemic. It is not out of the realm of possibility that they could rekindle that collaboration going forward. In any case, I shall keep an eye out for more details on this case.
