The new Chevrolet Cruze 2016 Redesign has already been unveiled in the international markets. However, it’s India debut will not happen before end-2017. Recently, General Motors India issued a press release regarding their plans for India. It stated, “Chevrolet is focused on delivering to our Indian customers the safe, high-quality vehicles they want backed by the world-class customer experience they deserve. We have a strong plan to launch at least five new Chevrolet models within the space of 24 months, including the new Trailblazer, new Beat, Essentia, new Cruze and Beat Activ.” Although it does not shed any light on the exact launch date of the new Cruze, our guess is that it could come to India by late 2017 or early 2018. Since the launch of the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze in India is still at least a year away, it is very difficult to comment on the price. However, you can safely expect the car to cost upwards of Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Current Chevrolet Cruze retails for Rs 14-17.66 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). As far as the competition is concerned, the Toyota Corolla Altis diesel is priced at Rs 14.82 – 17.58 lakh while the Hyundai Elantra costs Rs 15.56 – 19.03 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Underpinning the 2016 Cruze is the new D2XX FWD platform that replaces the Delta II platform. GM has already revealed that the new Cruze will be offered with a set of new engines and transmission. The table below shows the specifications of the America-spec model. The US-spec car employs a 1.6-litre turbocharged Diesel engine mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. India-spec Cruze will come with a diesel engine as well. However, there isn’t much information available regarding that particular motor. It is likely that the US-spec Cruze will have a claimed mileage of over 17 KMPL.

New Chevrolet Cruze 2016 – Exterior Design
The 2016 MY Cruze looks much sleeker and sportier in comparison to the current car sold in India. It is wider and sits lower and looks modern enough without being over the top in terms of styling. The overall design, with its narrow headlamps and other elements, reminds us of the previous generation Honda Civic. It also seems like an evolution of the older generation China-spec Cruze, especially the rear. For 2016, the Cruze gets projector headlamps and LED DRLs. India-spec version could also get LED taillamps and addition of chrome bits to the front grille.

The 2016 Chevy Cruze gets the 7-inch MyLink infotainment system that will be both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. The centre console’s design is being shared with the China-spec Cruze’s interior, and it is being expected that the upcoming model’s cabin will boast of a dual cockpit design, new 3-spoke steering wheel and a stylish instrument cluster that is likely to boast of a large Multi-Information Display (MID).
