August 2023 is shaping up to be a great month for the automobile industry with a slew of new car launches in India. In the last couple of years after the pandemic, the sales and demand for automobiles have increased multifold. Moreover, we have seen so many new car models in our market just in 2023 itself. The signs for growth in the industry are positive. To carry on the momentum, we might see quite a few launches in August. This is interesting since the festive season is also around the corner. Traditionally, the sales during that time at the highest in any given year. It is possible that car makers are preparing for that time of the year.

New Car Launches in India in August 2023
Hyundai Creta & Alcazar Adventure Editions
For the SUV lovers, the Adventure Editions of the mighty Hyundai Creta and Alcazar could prove to be really exciting. Creta has been the highest selling mid-size SUV in the country for a long time now. Alcazar is its 7-seater version. It is also a prominent product in its segment. As per the latest reports, we could see special edition models of both these SUVs this month. We expect these to feature some attractive exterior elements including a range of new colour themes. Moreover, these could even boast all-black interiors which is something very common among youngsters these days. But there won’t be any changes to the powertrain. The launch might take place by the end of August or even beginning of September.

Tata Punch CNG
Then we have the CNG version of the popular Tata Punch on the anvil. Punch has taken the market by storm ever since its launch. It offers a relatively affordable vehicle for all those who are looking for an SUV. It’s 5-star GNCAP safety rating and rugged looks are two of its strongest points attracting a whole lot of buyers. But now, things will get even more interesting when the Punch will be also available in a CNG guise. The rising fuel prices are hurting everyone, particularly in the last couple of years. As a result, people are beginning to look for alternatives. For city dwellers, CNG powertrain is the most feasible solution. EVs are still too expensive to purchase. In the CNG model, the Punch will make 76 hp and 97 Nm from the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine.

Toyota Rumion
Another interesting vehicle we might see in August is the Toyota Rumion. It is nothing but a badge-engineered model of the Maruti Ertiga. Ertiga has been a segment leader ever since its inception. In fact, there is literally no competition in this MPV segment in our market. Under the Suzuki-Toyota joint venture, both these car makers sell each other’s vehicles under their names. We have seen this in a market for a while now with Baleno-Glanza, Brezza-Urban Cruiser, Grand Vitara-Hyryder and Innova Hycross-Invicto. The Rumion will be the latest to join this list. It will get the same 1.5-litre NA petrol mill good for 103 hp and 138 Nm.

Volvo C40 Recharge
Moving to the premium end of the market, we might also see the Volvo C40 Recharge in our market this month. Note that Recharge refers to the electric models in the Swedish carmaker’s nomenclature. This luxury EV will be positioned above the existing XC40 Recharge. It will have a dual-motor setup which is the same as the XC40 Recharge. The powertrain develops 402 hp and 660 Nm of peak power and torque. Powering the electric motors will be a 78 kWh battery pack with the maximum range of 530 km on the WLTP cycle.

Mercedes-Benz GLC
The second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC is the next vehicle in this lineup. It is a luxury SUV that finds home in the garages of some of the top celebrities not just in India, but across the world. The official launch will occur on August 9, 2023. It will be available in two trims – GLC 300 and GLC 220d. Interestingly, both these variants comes with the trademark 4MATIC drivetrain. Bookings are open with a token amount of Rs 1.50 lakh.

Audi Q8 e-tron
Finally, the list concludes with the flagship electric car from the German luxury carmaker, the Audi Q8 e-tron. e-tron represents the electric lineup in Audi’s parlance. It will replace the Audi e-tron and have two body styles – SUV and Sportback. It will be powered by a colossal 114 kWh battery powering two electric motors. The total power and torque output stands at a usable 402 hp and 664 Nm. With this giant battery pack, one gets a range of 582 km in ideal conditions in the SUV guise and over 600 km in Sportback version. These are all the new car launches we are likely to witness in India in August 2023.
