The addition of tons of modern safety features has contributed to this impressive score
The new Maruti Dzire has been able to secure a full 5-star rating at the Global NCAP. Note that this is the first time ever a Maruti Suzuki product has secured this score. The 4th generation Dzire has recently been unveiled and is slated to go on sale starting November 11. This time around, the largest car marque in the country had made sure that the aesthetics mark an evident departure from either the current-gen Swift or the previous-gen Dzire. As a consequence, we have what looks like a completely unique and standout product from the Indo-Japanese carmaker. For now, let us delve deep into the details of the NCAP safety report.
New Maruti Dzire Gets 5-star Global NCAP Rating
The mighty popular compact sedan was able to secure a respectable 31.24 points out of a possible 34 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 39.20 points out of 49 in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. This translates to a 5-star rating for the AOP and a 4-star rating for COP. The standard safety equipment includes 6 airbags, a seatbelt pretensioner and loadlimiter for front and rear occupants, ISOFIX child seat mounts for the rear row, seatbelt reminder for front and rear, Electronic Stability Control and GTR 9 – UN 127 Pedestrian Protection. All these resulted in a full 5-star safety rating.
Adult Occupant Protection (AOP)
In the AOP section, the new Maruti Dzire bagged 13.239 points in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, 16 points in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test and an ‘OK’ Side Pole Impact Test. The bodyshell integrity was deemed stable and capable of withstanding further loadings. The driver’s neck and knees showed good protection while his chest displayed marginal protection and his tibias showed adequate protection. The passenger’s neck and knees also demonstrated good protection while his chest and tibias showed adequate protection in frontal impact. On side-impact and side-pole impact tests, the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis offered good protection. All this was good for a 5-star rating.
Child Occupant Protection (COP)
On the other hand, in this section, the new Maruti Dzire scored 22 points out of 24 in Dynamic Score, 12 points out of 12 in CRS Installation Score and 5 points out of 13 in Vehicle Assessment Score. For the 18-month-old child, the ISOFIX mounts were rearward facing, while for the 3-year-old child, it was forward facing. For the former, the ISOFIX was able to prevent head exposure during the frontal impact offering full protection, while for the latter, it was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the frontal impact offering full protection to the head and chest but limited protection to the neck. For the side impact test, both child seat mounts showed full protection. All these factors contributed to a 4-star rating.
My View
The fact that the latest Dzire becomes the first Maruti Suzuki car to ever secure 5 stars at the Global NCAP is a matter of great celebration. Being one of the highest-selling cars in the country, it will go a long way in ensuring enhanced road safety. Having the latest safety amenities will be immensely crucial in unfortunate road crashes. Let us keep an eye out for other Maruti Suzuki cars in terms of their safety ratings as well. We are already awaiting the safety score of the Grand Vitara. Its testing images were leaked a few weeks ago.
