The second generation of the flagship SUV from the Czech carmaker, the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq, will arrive in our market by festive season. The new Kodiaq represents the modern design philosophy, powertrains and interior amenities from the Czech car marque. In India, the Kodiaq is priced around the Rs 40 lakh mark which makes it a niche product. I am intrigued to see what approach Skoda adopts going forward, especially after pricing the new Superb at Rs 54 lakh, ex-showroom. Perhaps, the new Kodiaq could be priced in this vicinity as well.
New 2024 Skoda Kodiaq – Exterior
The 2024 Skoda Kodiaq was unveiled in October last year. It bears tons of aesthetic, as well as mechanical enhancements in comparison to the outgoing model. On the outside, it now embodies Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ philosophy. At the front, it gets a hexagonal grille with chrome inserts, a sleek LED headlamp cluster, a sporty bumper and trademark creases on the bonnet. On the sides, there are squared-off wheel arches, a modern alloy wheel design, a boxy silhouette, black side pillars and a long rear overhang. All in all, the new Kodiaq will be 61 mm longer than the current model.

Specs
The one thing I am most intrigued about is what will power the Indian-spec model. In the international market, the new Skoda Kodiaq comes with multiple engine options including a 1.5-litre TSI PHEV, a 1.5-litre TSI mHEV, a 2.0-litre TSI and a 2.0-litre TDI unit. The power and torque figures range from 150 hp / 250 Nm to 204 hp / 400 Nm. The 2.0-litre petrol and diesel mills also offer the option of a 4WD. That will lend it off-roading capabilities. All these engines come with a sporty and familiar 7-speed DSG transmission. It will be interesting to see which engine-transmission combination(s) makes it to our shores.
Engine | Power | Torque |
1.5L TSI PHEV (4×2) | 204 hp | 350 Nm |
1.5L TSI mHEV (4×2) | 150 hp | 250 Nm |
2.0L TSI (4×4) | 204 hp | 320 Nm |
2.0L TDI (4×2) | 150 hp | 360 Nm |
2.0L TDI (4×4) | 193 hp | 400 Nm |
Our View
The main talking point about the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq will be its price point. Skoda is coming up with rather surprising price strategies for its newer products. The recently re-launched CBU Superb is a prime example of that. Also, another key aspect to watch out for will be which powertrains make it to the Indian model. I feel Skoda loyalists with deep pockets will opt for the Kodiaq in any shape or form. The challenge will be to entice the new customers.
