In this post, I am comparing the new 2024 Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger on the basis of specs, price, features, design and safety. This is an interesting comparison between two almost similar vehicles. Note that these share the engine and transmission combinations. However, the two companies have done enough to distinguish the SUVs in terms of aesthetics, cabin layout and features. Having said that, the prices are almost identical too. Therefore, choosing between these two can be really confusing. Let us take a look at the details of each car to come to a conclusion as to which one makes more sense to you.

Therefore, there is barely anything to choose from in this regard. The top model of the Magnite is pricier because it has recently been updated and gets a few new amenities.

However, it is available in two states of tune – naturally aspirated and turbocharged. The power and torque outputs read 71 hp / 96 Nm and 99 hp / 152 Nm (160 Nm with CVT), respectively. Performing the transmission duties are a 5-speed manual and an AMT or CVT automatic gearbox option. As a result, buyers get all sorts of combinations to choose from as per their requirements. The Japanese car marque claims a mileage of 20 km/l for the manual and 17.4 km/l for the CVT automatic.

On the other hand, the Renault Kiger also possesses the same engine and transmission alternatives. Hence, we see the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder mill which generates an identical 71 hp / 96 Nm and 99 hp / 152 Nm (160 Nm with CVT) of peak power and torque with naturally aspirated and turbo variants, respectively. Again, the gearbox options include a 5-speed manual and an AMT or CVT automatic. Interestingly, Renault says that the mileage figures are 19.17 km/l with the manual, 19.03 km/l with the AMT and 18.24 km/l with the CVT. To infer, both these are almost similar.

Design and Dimensions

This is where things get interesting. Despite carrying the same powertrains and almost the same price tag, the main difference lies in the design. The new 2024 Nissan Magnite possesses a broad grille section with chrome elements on either side. Apart from that, the edges of the bonnet house the sleek LED headlamps, while the prominent LED DRLs are positioned on the extreme edges of the bumper down below. I specifically like the sturdy skid plate at the front which contains the fog lamps. Moving down the sides reveals striking alloy wheels, black side pillars, sturdy side body claddings and a black roof. Finally, the tail end has an M-shaped clear lens signature taillamp cluster, a sporty bumper, a chrome slab connecting the taillamps, a shark fin antenna and a solid skid plate.

On the other hand, the Renault Kiger bears a completely different appearance. At the front, we get to witness a muscular layout with a colossal grille section constituting chrome embellishments, and a large Renault logo at the centre flanked by slim LED DRLs on either side. The main tri-module LED headlamp cluster is situated on the edges of the bumper. Furthermore, the bumper is divided into two halves via a black panel. Down below, the silver skid plate accentuates the adventurous traits of the SUV. The side profile is even more striking with elegant alloy wheels, black claddings on wheel arches and side body panels, black side pillars, functional roof rails, etc. At the rear, the Kiger gets a shark fin antenna, roof-mounted spoiler, unique taillamps and a colossal skid plate on the sporty bumper. In essence, both these SUVs have their individual road presence.

My View

Now, it is easy to get confused between these two seemingly similar products. In all honesty, they are a lot similar in terms of prices, features and powertrains. The main difference lies in safety and aesthetics. Hence, it is a matter of preference. With Nissan and Renault, it also becomes crucial to see which of these has a dealership and service centre near your home. We know that neither of these has an extensively widespread touchpoint network like Maruti Suzuki or Hyundai. Hence, you need to make sure that there are enough service centres in your area. Finally, make sure to experience the two in real life by visiting the showrooms before making up your mind.
