Skoda has unveiled the new Rapid in Russia, which is likely to come to India by 2021. Most of the changes are limited to styling only.
Skoda has unveiled the all-new Rapid sedan in Russia. The updated sedan gets a completely refreshed styling, new interiors as well as new features. In India, we are going to get the new Rapid by the end of 2021.
The biggest update that the new Skoda Rapid gets is its notchback styling. The derriere of the sedan has been shortened and the boot lid is now closer to the rear mirror. The styling is inspired by the typical Skoda design language.
On the front, it gets sleeker arrow headlamps with a new front grille. Inside the cabin, you get ambient lighting, new upholstery, a fully digital speedometer and a floating touchscreen infotainment system. Most likely, these changes will also come on the India-spec.

Under the hood, the Russia-spec new Skoda Rapid continues with the 1.6 Litre MPI and the 1.4 Litre turbo-petrol engine. The latter produces 125 BHP and is known to be a very exciting engine. The engines come mated to a 5-speed MT as well as a 4-speed AT for the MPI engine and the DSG gearbox for the turbo-petrol.
However, in India, we are most likely to get only one engine. It will be an all-new developed 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol unit, that will power the Vento and the Polo as well. It will pump out around 110 BHP and will come with two transmissions – a 5-speed MT and the 7-speed DSG.
As told earlier, Volkswagen and Skoda have decided to discontinue the diesel engines. Currently, the Rapid is also available with a 1.5 Litre TDI diesel engine, which will soon be shelved out. Post April-2020, Volkswagen and Skoda will be all-petrol brands.
