Fabia is one of the most popular hatchbacks from Skoda Group in various international markets. Having been around for a while now, it has seen a major generation update. Skoda has showcased the new Fabia for the international markets. It is based on the MQB A0 platform. Incidentally, there is the Indianized version of the same platform on which the upcoming mid-size SUV, Kushaq is based, namely the MQB A0 IN platform. As a matter of fact, the upcoming Rapid substitute will also be underpinned by the same platform. Therefore, we have reason to believe that if Skoda were to bring this Fabia to our shores, it will be developed on the MQB A0 IN platform. This will ensure a more accessible price and maintenance costs, which has always been the point of contention for the Czech carmakers in our market. The unveiling of the latest-gen Fabia highlights the direction that the brand is moving towards in terms of design, interiors, features and powertrains. Let us see what the new Skoda Fabia has to offer.

Skoda Fabia- Exterior Design
The overall design language of the premium hatchback represents the modern design theme of the brand with a ton of sharp creases all around the body of the car. This gives the hatchback a sporty and sculpted appearance. The LED headlamps are crystalline pattern whihc has been a trademark for the brand lately. The broad butterfly front grille along with a sporty bumper gives the car a sophisticated and sporty appearance. The sides also host the sharp creases, stylish new 18-inch alloy wheels (on the range-topping variant) and a chrome belt under the window line to give the car some character. The rear continues to host the sharp angles on the LED taillamps, rear bumper and on the boot lid. The large Panoramic Sunroof and the rear spoiler complete the sporty exteriors of the Skoda Fabia.

Skoda Fabia- Interiors and Features
The interiors of the Skoda Fabia also represent a modern outlook. The interiors of the new Skoda Fabia are very much in line with the latest design elements from the Czech carmaker which we have also seen in the India-bound Kushaq SUV. The official video shared by Skoda indicates a modern-looking cabin with the Digital Cockpit-style Instrument Cluster, a large Digital Touchscreen Infotainment System which will likely come with all the modern necessary connectivity features including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth Connectivity, Multiple USB-C Charging Ports, Connected Car Tech, Voice Commands, Typical Two-Spoke Multi-Function Steering Wheel, Round AirCon Vents, Funky Inserts on the Dashboard which is extended to various places throughout the cabin, high-quality interiors and much more. Needless to say, the safety equipment list on the Fabia will also be extensive.

Skoda Fabia- Engines, Transmissions and India
In the international market, the Skoda offers the Fabia with a plethora of engine and transmission options including a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 65 hp or 80 hp mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, a 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine making 95 hp or 110 hp (similar to the on VW Polo in India) mated to either a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG (DCT). The most powerful engine option is the 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol unit making 150 hp and 250 Nm mated exclusively to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. If the Fabia makes its way to India, it will most likely be powered by the 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine making 110 hp similar to the Polo. The transmission options might include a 6-speed manual or Automatic.
While the current plans of the Skoda involve SUVs for the most part, still we can’t fully rule out the possibility of the Indianized version of the Skoda Fabia. If that happens, it will face tough competition from the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Toyota Glanza among others.
