There were rumours suggesting the 6th generation Polo would make its India debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. However, Volkswagen Group will be skipping the event. Which means the new Polo, quite obviously, will not be present at the 2018 Auto Expo. Expect the official launch to take place in the first half of 2018. Internationally, Volkswagen has just got done with revealing the 2018 Polo. European markets are likely to witness the launch of the new Polo in the second half of 2017.

Like the current model, the new Volkswagen Polo will not be the most value for money offering. Expect prices to start at about Rs. 6.00 lakh for the base petrol variant. However, VW India did adopt a very aggressive price like they have done in the case of the Ameo. Which is, strangely, cheaper than the Polo hatchback!

Volkswagen is said to be working on new petrol engines for the new 2018 Polo hatchback. These will include 1.0 L, 1.2 L and 1.5 L units. India is likely to get either the 1.0 L petrol or the 1.2 L petrol. As for the diesel variants, they will continue to draw power from the 1.5 L TDI that does duty on the current car. New 2018 Volkswagen Polo India – Exterior Design Review
In typical Volkswagen fashion, the exterior design of the new Mk6 Polo hatchback is an evolution of the current India-spec Polo’s design. It getd a new nose with new bumpers and headlamps. However, the overall design, like the current car, featured clean straight lines. The new generation Polo is slightly bigger than the current India-spec model as well. It borrows design cues from the latest VW models such as the 2017 Golf and from concepts like the T-Roc and T-Cross Breeze. Premium bits like LED headlamps, LED day lamps and DRLs might be given a miss for the India market to keep costs low.

Inside, the 2018 Polo features an all new design. It borrows design cues from the T-Roc concept. Similar to this design study, the Polo’s interior gets exterior body-colored inserts. Also, since the new 2018 Polo is bigger than the 5th generation model, it has more interior space.

For the new 2018 Polo Mk6, VW will introduce new petrol engines. These will include 1.0 L, 1.2 L and 1.5 L options. However, the Indian market is likely to get either the 1.0 L or the 1.2 L petrol engine. Recently, Volkswagen India launched the Ameo and Vento with the updated 1.5 L diesel engine. The new Polo will also get this engine. Transmission options will include a choice of manual and automatic gearboxes. The automatic transmission on offer will be the 7-speed DSG. The 2018 Polo is based on Volkswagen’s versatile MQB platform. It is lighter and more rigid, which means the Polo should be well sorted in terms of driving dynamics. This platform will also spawn multiple Polo based models including a small SUV and the next generation Vento sedan.
