The new model Maruti Suzuki Swift has been in news since a lot of time now. It won’t be wrong to say that its launch is probably the most important upcoming event for both Maruti Suzuki and B-segment car buyers. Akin to the current model, the new Swift will launch in both Petrol and Diesel engine variants. However, chances are that this time around, India will even get a hybrid version of the hot-selling hatchback. We are still at least four months away from the new car’s launch but that hasn’t stopped media from speculating on the upcoming car. Various reports even go on to state that the new 2018 Maruti Swift launch date will happen at the Auto Expo 2018. Well, we can’t vouch for these reports but it does seem like the new-generation car would at least have its India debut at the next Delhi motor show.

The new 2018 Maruti Swift hatchback looks a lot fresher and more modern. That said, its design is more revolutionary than evolutionary, which isn’t really a bad thing. The new car is not only more attractive than the current model but is also larger in dimensions. The front-end is characterised by a much wider grille that makes the car’s nose look a lot sportier. The headlights look a lot more premium and carry LED fixtures. The most eye-catching detail of the side profile is the floating-roof effect created by blacked-out pillars. The rear-end also looks a lot more premium than the posterior of the current car. First of all, it is when you look at the car’s rear-end that the increased width gets really apparent. Secondly, the new taillights, which are slightly square-isa in profile, lend a slightly premium touch go the cabin.

Even the interior gets a sporty new design and several new features. Thanks to the larger dimensions, the new 2018 Maruti Swift will offer sufficient space for five occupants. The boot-space has gone up and so has the quality of materials. The dashboard is characterised by round aircon vents in the centre and rectangular once at the terminal ends. The new generation of Maruti’s popular hatchback will even come with a handful of new features. The most important of these will be the touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system. This is the same unit that is also found on costlier cars like the Ciaz. For the new generation of Swift, it will offer both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Specifications and mileage won’t be drastically different from those of the current car. Both the current engines will be carried over to the new 2018 Maruti Swift. The 1.2-litre K-Series petrol will, however, finally get an AMT option. Even the 1.3-litre DDiS engine will offer an optional AMT. Going by the well-tuned AMTs of the Dzire, it looks like even the Swift AMT would be high on both convenience and driver-involvement. Speculations are rife that MSIL might even bring the Swift Sport or the Swift RS to India. This model, if it ever makes it here, will have the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder Boosterjet turbo petrol engine. Currently available only with the Baleno RS, this engine outputs a maximum power of 100.5 BHP along with a peak torque of 150 Nm.
The Swift nameplate first made it to India back in 2005. Back then, the hatchback shook the entire car market with its sporty looks, high performance from the free-revving 1.3-litre G13 petrol engine, and an attractive price tag. The car was then replaced by the second-generation model (for India) in August 2011. Maruti is now gearing up the next-generation model will now replace the current car early next year. Here are all the available details on the new 2018 Maruti Swift launch date, price, specifications, and mileage.
New 2018 Maruti Swift Launch Date in India
Launch Date (expected) | Early February 2018 |
Speculations were earlier rife that the new 2019 Swift would likely launch in India during this year’s festive season. Well, the festive season is finally here and we don’t see the new Swift anywhere close to its market debut. It’s now being said that the new generation of the hatchback will have its market launch at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018. Well, it does seem like the new car will make it to India in February next year. The car will likely have its India debut at the Delhi motor show and subsequently go on sale here. Production of the car is about to commence at the manufacturer’s production facility in Gujarat.
It’s for the first time that the latest-generation Dzire has come to us before the launch of its hatchback sibling. The latest generation Dzire made it to India in early 2017 and has been setting sales charts on fire ever since. With the Dzire dominating its hatchback sibling in terms of sales, Maruti sees it as a slightly more important car. Hence, it chose to bring the new compact sedan ahead of its hatchback sibling. That said, the company does have high hopes from the new Swift. While the new-generation car might even affect the sales of the Baleno to some extent, the company is confident that the new car will end up completely dominating the B-segment along with the Baleno.
New 2018 Maruti Swift Price in India
Minimum Price | Rs. 5.50 Lakh |
Maximum Price | Rs. 8.50 Lakh |
Prices of the new Swift will be definitely higher than those of the current car. However, we are pretty sure that the new car will be able to justify the price premium through a fresher design, more features, and a more involving drive. Also, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has been known to price its cars ultra-competitively. Expect a similar pricing strategy for even the new Swift. We believe prices of the new car will start at Rs 5.00 lakh and go all the way to Rs 8.00 lakh for the top-end model. Our estimates are based on the prices of the new Dzire. Currently, the Maruti Dzire price range starts at Rs 5.50 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 8.50 lakh.
In this price range, the new Swift, just like the current car, will find itself rivalling a slew of cars. Its rivals will range from the likes of Hyundai Grand i10 to micro-SUVs like the Mahindra KUV100 and its own cousin, the Maruti Ignis.

The Diesel engine, which will be same DDIS 200 turbocharged four-cylinder motor, will also come mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT. Maruti is very likely to re-tune both the engines for the new car but peak power and torque values will remain more or less unchanged. The petrol engine is capable of outputting a maximum power of 83 bhp along with a peak torque of 115 Nm. On the other hand, the Diesel engine produces a maximum power fo 74 bhp and a peak torque of 190 Nm.

Akin to the bigger hatchback, even the new Swift might end up offering a performance variant with the RS suffix. The Boosterjet engine that powers the Baleno RS is a three-cylinder turbocharged unit that outputs a maximum power of 100 PS along with a peak torque of 150 Nm. There are some reports that go on to state that Maruti might even decide to bring the Swift Sport to the country. Internation-spec Swift 2018
Internationally, the new model Suzuki Swift has been on sale with a 1.2-litre Dualjet, 4-cylinder K12C and the 1.0-litre Boosterjet K10C turbocharged petrol engines. In the international market, transmission options include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic and a CVT. There’s also a hybrid model available abroad. Even this variant has fair share of chances of making it to India. The hybrid model gets a 91 PS, 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 10 kW electric motor generator. The hybrid powerplant transmits power to the front wheels via a 5-speed AMT.

This means that the petrol variant of the new Swift will be powered by the same 1.2-litre K-series four-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine that powers the current car. The Diesel variant will get the same Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS four-cylinder Turbo motor. Of course, Maruti will make it a point to re-tune the engines and extract more fuel efficiency.
