Maruti Swift is currently of the largest selling compact hatchback in India. Since its launch in February 2018, the Swift has garnered over 1 lakh sales so far. The 2018 iteration of this vehicle offers a better design, features, mileage, creature comforts and safety equipment than the last generation version.

The current generation of the Maruti Swift made its debut in India a couple of months back in February at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The latest iteration of this hatchback created a lot of hype and anticipation even before it was launched. And hence, in flesh, it was one of the major centre of attractions at the event. The new Swift packs in a lot of kit in addition to its sporty styling in comparison to the model that it replaces. It now comes with features like projector headlamps, LED DRLs, a touchscreen infotainment system and many others which make this car one of the best hatchbacks currently on sale in India. Furthermore, it offers a decent safety kit as standard which includes dual-airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts. As a result of all this, the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift is currently in huge demand and has so far clocked a total sales figure of more than 1 lakh units since its launch.

Maruti Swift India Launch Date

The current generation of the Maruti Swift made its debut in India at this year Auto Expo. The car was launched on the 9th of February 2018.

Maruti Swift Price In India

The 2018 model year Maruti Suzuki Swift currently retails in India at a starting price of INR 4.99 lakh. This is the price of the base petrol variant. The top of the line petrol trim costs INR 6.96 lakh to own. The base petrol variant of the new Swift costs INR 5.99 lakh. While the top of the range oil-burner retails at 7.96 lakh. These prices are ex-showroom New Delhi.

Maruti Swift Engine Specifications

The 2018 iteration of the Swift comes with the same engine specifications as before. The petrol derivatives are powered by the same 1.2-litre K-Series engine which is capable of producing 82 BHP of power along with 113 NM of peak torque. While the diesel engine is the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre unit capable of producing 74 BHP of power along with 190 Nm of peak torque. As standard, both the cars come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. One can also opt for a 5-speed AMT gearbox which is available only on select variants.

Maruti Swift Mileage

The new Maruti Suzuki Swift is based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform which is lighter and hence more fuel efficient than before. The ARAI claimed mileage of the petrol derivative of the Swift is 22 km/l. While for the diesel one stands at 28.40 km/l.

Maruti Swift Safety

Renowned independent safety assessment body Euro NCAP recently crash tested two variants of the Euro-spec 2018 Swift. While the standard variant scored 3 stars in the crash test, the fully loaded model with the full safety pack, which comes with as many as 6 airbags, managed to score 4 stars. The car scored 83% and 75% for adult and child safety respectively.

Maruti Swift Review – Exterior Design

For 2017, Suzuki gave the exterior of the Swift a comprehensive makeover. However, as can be seen in the images we have here, the basic design is still unmistakably Swift. It does sport many new styling elements like a floating roof, a bigger single piece grille, headlamps with projector units and integrated LED DRLs. Also, much like the Chevrolet Beat, the rear door handle has been moved to the C-Pillar. Seen in the images here is the Euro-spec Suzuki Swift. The one that comes to India will have a raised ride height to tackle Indian roads. Also, lower level trims will get a conventional bulb setup for the headlamps and taillamps.

Maruti Swift Review – Interior Design

Changes to the cabin and dashboard design are far more comprehensive. The centre console is dominated by the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system and circular controls for the auto aircon. These dials come integrated with the temperature and fan speed display. There is a new sporty flat bottom steering wheel, which we really hope makes it to the India-spec Swift. The hooded instrument binnacle houses a Baleno like high red MID and could also offer customizable backlighting much like the Vitara Brezza. However, some of the features seen here could be given a miss to keep costs in check.

Maruti Swift Dimensions

Interestingly, the new Swift is shorter than the current model but has a longer wheelbase. That combined with clever interior packaging should result in increased cabin space. At 265 L, the new 2017 Suzuki Swift also has a bigger boot.
