When the current model Hyundai Verna was launched in India it took the market by storm. Its combination of powerful petrol and diesel engines helped it to the top in that segment. However, the car is beginning to show its age now. And while the facelift it received in 2015 has kept it going, it needs a lot more than that to fight for the top spot. In 2016, Hyundai took the wraps off the new 2017 Hyundai Verna. The car is already on sale in China and Russia (under the Solaris moniker). It will come to India by mid 2017. Prices of the next generation Hyundai Verna will fall in the Rs. 8-12 lakhs range.

New 2017 Hyundai Verna India Launch | Mid 2017 |
Hyundai could be targeting a mid-2017 launch for the new Verna. However, Hyundai India hasn’t made any announcements regarding the launch of the next generation Verna in India. The manufacturer already has a handful of new launches in the pipeline including the AWD variant of the Tucson SUV, Xcent facelift and a new compact SUV. The new Verna is already on sale in Russia as the Solaris. It made its debut in Canada recently where it is sold as the Accent.
The Verna has already lost ground to some of its key rivals. With the launch of the Honda City facelift and Maruti Ciaz facelift right around the corner, Hyundai should be looking to bring the new Verna to India as soon as possible.

New 2017 Hyundai Verna Exterior Review
The production-spec MY 2017 Verna closely resembles the concept that was showcased in 2016. It gets a more mature looking exterior thanks to the new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. There are subtle differences between the Russia-spec and the China-spec Verna. The newer Russia-spec Verna gets a different bumper and Hyundai’s new ‘Cascading’ grille design. And that is the one which will come to India.
Up front, Hyundai’s new ‘Cascading’ grille takes centre stage with sleek new swept back headlamps on either side. They get projector units and LED DRLs. Like the current Verna, the upcoming model also features a sloping coupe-like roofline. Hints of the new Elantra can be seen at the back in the form of the subtle ‘kick up’ style spoiler and narrow split tail lamps. Overall, the new design looks smart and should be helpful in attracting customers.
New 2017 Hyundai Verna Interior Review
The Hyundai Verna 2017 gets a fresh new cabin that looks classier than the current car. Designers have kept the dashboard elegant. It gets a neatly integrated touchscreen infotainment system and auto aircon controls placed below it. The model pictured here gets an all-black interior trim with silver highlights. We expect Hyundai India to offer the new Verna with a dual tone black-beige interior treatment. Bits like the steering wheel, gear know, etc. are similar to existing products like the Elite i20 and Creta. We expect Hyundai Verna’s cabin to be more spacious and practical than before.
New 2017 Hyundai Verna Engine and Transmission
The current model’s engine lineup is likely to be carried forward to the upcoming car. The new Hyundai Verna will get four engine options – 1.4-litre petrol, 1.6-litre petrol, 1.4-litre diesel and 1.6-litre diesel. The 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines make 106 bhp and 121 bhp respectively. While the 1.4 and 1.6 diesel engines put out 89 bhp and 126 bhp respectively. The 6-speed manual that comes standard with all engine options will continue. However, the optional 4-speed auto on offer with the 1.6 L Petrol and 1.6 L Diesel engines could be replaced by 6-speed automatic units. Fuel efficiency should witness an improvement.
