Hyundai India launched the new look Verna 2017 on August-22. In a little more than a couple of months since its launch, the car has garnered over 20,000 bookings, thereby hinting at the great response that the car has got from prospective C2-segment sedan buyers. Akin to previous all-new models, the new 2017 Hyundai Verna is new inside and out. It may be noted that the Verna is known as the new Accent internationally. The Next-Gen Verna gets a 1.6 litre Dual VTVT petrol and a 1.6 litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel engine. Both the engines will have two transmission options- 6 Speed Manual and 6 Speed Automatic Transmissions. While the 1.6 litre Dual VTVT petrol engine outputs 123 PS, the 1.6 litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel engine outputs 128 PS. The current Verna has been facing heat from the Maruti Ciaz and the Honda City at the moment. However, the new generation of Hyundai’s popular C-segment sedan is already leaving a dent in the sales of its rivals. The new Verna outsold the Ciaz and the City in the months of September and October.

While prices will be announced only the date of launch, we expect the new Verna to go on sale for roughly Rs 9 – 14 Lakh. This means there are enough chances of the new model to be slightly costlier than the current car. However, in all probability, the higher price tag will be justified through more features, new design and updated engines. The new Verna will go on to rival successful cars like the Maruti Ciaz and the Honda City. Like we just said, bookings are already underway. The new car gets retuned version of the 1.6-litre engines of the last-generation model. This means the new Verna 2017 will come with a 1.6-litre, NA, 4-cylinder petrol and a 1.6-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder Diesel engine. The petrol engine benefits from Variable timing while the Diesel engine boasts a variable geometry turbocharger. Both the 1.6-litre engines get a 6-speed Manual and a 6-speed Automatic Transmission. This torque converter unit isn’t marred by the rubber-band effect seen on CVTs offered by some of the rivals.

New 2017 Hyundai Verna Exterior Design
The new 2017 Hyundai Verna (new Accent) builds upon the manufacturer’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. Hence, the new model goes on to look more modern and a lot more stylish. Let’s not forget the current Verna has found many takers owing to its rather radical styling. We expect the new model to similarly impress the car buying lot. We say this as the new car looks better sculpted and a lot fresher.
The latest generation Accent’s front-end is characterized by a hexagonal grille that is typical of all modern-day Hyundai cars. The bumper looks sporty and the sleek headlamps lend this car a pretty athletic touch. The car’s front-end is definitely a lot more upmarket now. The side profile is also all-new. That said, there’s still a touch of the last-generation Verna here. However, taut surfaces and bold creases, together with the stylish alloys, help the car look modern and attractive. At the rear, the twin-pod taillamps lend the new model Verna an Elantra-like rear-end. The rear bumper also looks sporty but we’ve got a feeling that the 2017 Verna will suffer from a high loading lip for the boot.

If we talk about the dimensions, the new 2017 Verna is not just longer but even wider than the last-generation. This means that the new Verna will offer more legroom and seating three in the rear shouldn’t be a concern. That said, the new Verna is nowhere close to the really spacious Maruti Ciaz. This is one area where the Ciaz enjoys a clear advantage over all its rivals. This should continue even after the launch of the new Verna.

Much like the exterior, the interior of the car is all-new. It comes with a fresh design and many new features to catch your fancy. The car gets a very attractive design for its dashboard. Taking centre-stage here is the new touchscreen infotainment unit. The centre console has a very minimalistic feel to it. The steering wheel has a two-spoke design and the rim’s thickness seems to be just right. The aricon vents flank the infotainment unit and there triangle shape lends the dashboard a rather sporty touch. The vents on the two extreme corners of the dashboard are trapezoidal in shape.
The new Verna is both longer and wider than the last-generation model. This means that there are enough chances of 2017 model boasting more room inside. The legroom seems to have improved by a fair margin. Also, thanks to more width, seating three in the rear shouldn’t be an issue. Overall, the new Verna 2017’s cabin impresses with its design and a long list of features. We’re pretty sure it will offer a more comfortable environment than the last-generation’s interior setup.
