New 2016 Hyundai Elantra vs Chevrolet Cruze – Price in India

The new Elantra’s starting price is lower than the Chevy Cruze’s, but that is for the petrol variants. Diesel variants are more expensive. However, bear in mind that it is also bigger and more feature laden, which justifies the extra cost. The new model costs more and prices will only go up 2017 onwards. Currently, the Cruze is available only with a diesel engine option.

New 2016 Hyundai Elantra vs Chevrolet Cruze – India Specifications Comparison

The new Hyundai Elantra comes with a 2.0-litre petrol and a 1.6-litre diesel engine. In contrast, the Cruze is only on offer with a 2.0 litre Diesel engine. Both cars offer a choice of automatic and manual transmissions. The Cruze’s 2.0 L Diesel is considerably more powerful than the Elantra’s 1.6 L diesel and produces more torque as well. In fact, the Chevy has the most powerful diesel engine in this segment. However, it is not as fuel efficient as Elantra’s diesel variants.

New 2016 Hyundai Elantra vs Chevrolet Cruze – Exterior Design

Up front, the new Elantra gets a large hexagonal chrome grille with sleek headlamps on either side. These headlamps get LED DRLs and projector units. At the back, the new Elantra gets sleeker LED tail lamps and a sharper boot lid. It builds on the fluidic design of the outgoing sedan infusing some maturity into its exteriors. Most modern Hyundai’s these days get very attractive exteriors and the new Elantra is no exception. The current model Cruze sold here in India is a generation old now, a fact that is evident in its design. It is a good looking car, no doubt. But the Elantra is new and much more modern.

Much like the exteriors, the interiors of the Elantra look more mature and less in your face than before. It features a sportier look on the inside. The car gets a touchscreen infotainment system and some silver highlights and a chunky steering wheel. As part of the recent updates, Chevrolet has added the MyLink touchscreen infotainment system to the features list of the Cruze. The interiors get a dual tone treatment with silver highlights. Those hooded dials look really cool and add some oomph to the Cruze’s cabin.

Chevrolet offers the Cruze with 4 airbags while the top-end trims of the Elantra get 6. Elantra also gets ventilated seats, projector headlamps and LED taillamps, which the Cruze doesn’t get. Both cars come with auto aircon, touchscreen AVN, sunroof and more.

The Chevrolet Cruze has two big advantages over the new Hyundai Elantra. First, it is significantly cheaper. And secondly, it has a more powerful diesel engine. However, in terms of features, design and mileage the Elantra is much better than the Chevy.

• Design – The Chevrolet Cruze is now a generation old and starting to look dated. Hyundai’s new Elantra looks much more modern. However, at the end of the day, design is a matter of personal taste.
• Features – Hyundai is offering the Elantra with 6-airbags and other additional features such as cooled/heated seats, projector headlamps, etc. Chevrolet Cruze falls behind in terms of features.
• Specifications – Cruze’s 165 PS Diesel is more powerful and produces more torque than Elantra’s 1.6 diesel. Both cars get manual and automatic transmission options.
• Price – Hyundai Elantra is more expensive than the Chevrolet Cruze. At the same time, it is more feature rich.
