Maruti Grand Vitara is among the most successful mid-size SUVs in our market despite stiff competition from the Koreans
We are still awaiting the safety rating of the Maruti Grand Vitara in spite of the fact that the images of the test were leaked quite a while ago. Grand Vitara is MSIL’s answer to the sheer domination by the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in our market. This is one of the most lucrative and rapidly expanding categories in India. In fact, almost all major car marques have their products on sale in this space. Hence, auto giants want to ensure that their models offer all sorts of tech, connectivity and safety amenities to pamper the customers. For now, let us discuss the safety aspect of the Maruti Grand Vitara.
Safety Rating of Maruti Grand Vitara
The images were leaked over 2 months ago when the Grand Vitara was at the NCAP testing facility. Generally, it doesn’t take this long for the automakers to announce the results. Somehow, we are still not aware of the official score of the mid-size SUV. If we were to speculate, it is likely that the largest car marque in the country will announce the safety rating of the Grand Vitara in the next batch. The SUV comes with 2 airbags in the lower trims and 6 airbags in higher variants along with tons of other safety equipment. Hence, it will be interesting to see how well it scores on the latest NCAP test.
As a matter of fact, the next batch of results could also include the Nissan Magnite facelift. We are expecting it to score a decent rating since its updated monocoque is 40 kg heavier than the outgoing model. Apart from that, the Japanese car marque has equipped the new Magnite with tons of standard safety kit. In fact, Nissan has told us that it is confident of a decent score. The top highlights include:
- 6 Airbags
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
- ABS with EBD
- Hill Start Assist
- ISOFIX Child Seat Mounts
- Reverse Parking Sensors
My View
Safety ratings have become immensely relevant in this modern era. Many customers consider the safety ratings of cars before deciding to go for a particular model. Unfortunately, Maruti Suzuki doesn’t have a great image when it comes to safety ratings. It would desperately want to change that going forward. Hence, we see it launch new cars with increasing standard safety features. I feel a lot will depend on the official safety rating of the Maruti Grand Vitara. Let us keep an eye out for that in times to come.
