From brand new launches, to deliveries of BS6 motorcycles, everything has got indefinitely delayed as the country fights the coronavirus pandemic through a nationwide lockdown.
As the country continues its fight against the coronavirus scare, we can’t help but lament the delay in arrival of a few new motorcycles to the Indian market. With the ongoing lockdown, several manufacturer’s have delayed the launch of several motorcycles. The last major launch we saw was that of the Bajaj Dominar 250. And seems like we will have to wait for quite some long before the next new motorcycle arrives. So here’s a list of few motorcycles whose launch in India has been delayed due to coronavirus.
Hero Xtreme 160R
Hero showcased the Xtreme 160R at the Hero World 2020 and it was supposed to launch this month itself. However the launch has been indefinitely postponed. The Hero Xtreme 160R was Hero’s first attempt at the premium 160cc commuter segment and it came with a brand new chassis and decent features on board as well. It’s powered by a 160 cc single-cylinder fuel-injected motor that develops 15 bhp and 14 Nm of peak torque. The Hero Xtreme 160R was expected to be priced around Rs 95,000 and was meant to take the likes of Suzuki Gixxer 155, Honda CB Hornet 160R and Bajaj Pulsar 160NS.
2020 Triumph Street Triple RS
The new Triumph Street Triple RS was originally supposed to launch on March 25, 2020. In a later development, Triumph decided for a virtual launch of the Street Triple RS but when the nationwide lockdown was imposed, Triumph postponed the launch of the motorcycle indefinitely. The 2020 Street Triple RS comes with a comprehensive set of updates. It looks much sharper now, its BS6 compliant and the engine develops 9% more power at 121 bhp and 79 Nm of peak torque. Triumph has significantly worked on the mid range performance of the motorcycle with a wider power band and some new cycle parts too.
Benelli Imperiale 400 BS6
Benelli was supposed to launch the Imperiale 400 BS6 next month but it now stands postponed until further notice. The Imperiale 400 was going to be the first BS6 motorcycle from the manufacturer. The 374 cc single-cylinder, fuel injected engine would have been updated to comply with the stricter emission norms and we expect the output figures would have remained identical to the BS4 spec motorcycle at 20.7 bhp and 29 Nm of peak torque. We however do not expect any other significant change on the motorcycle including its equipment list and styling. While we do not expect a full-fledged launch, Benelli India could announce prices with deliveries likely to begin in the second half of the year.
2020 Triumph Tiger 900
Yes, there’s another Triumph motorcycle in this list and its none other than the Tiger 900. Well, the Tiger 900 is almost a completely new motorcycle over the Tiger 800 it replaces. It looks much more contemporary and is also much more compact and leaner than before, something off-roaders would really appreciate. The engine has also gained in displacement and os it produces more power and torque than before as well. Triumph has also loaded the Tiger 900 with electronic goodies to the brim. It was supposed to launch in April this year but it now stands suspended. Once the situation has normalized, Triumph will first launch the Street Triple RS and then follow it with the Tiger 900.

Royal Enfield J1D Motorcycle
A lot has been cooking up at Royal Enfield recently but all that stands postponed now. Royal Enfield is coming out with a replacement of the Thunderbird 350 which they are calling the Meteor 350. Its based on a new platform and gets a new engine too. But that’s not the biggest news from Enfield. The manufacturer is also readying a Triumph Street Twin-styled motorcycle which looks nothing we have seen from Royal Enfield as of yet. There are not much details about this new motorcycle but it looks like an all new motorcycle, is the most we can say. We will have to wait a while to figure out what this motorcycle turns out to be.

Jawa Perak
The Jawa Perak makes it to this list not for its launch but about the deliveries of the motorcycle which were scheduled to begin from April 2, 2020. However, with the lockdown in India and the coronavirus restricting the supply of components from China, Classic Legends announced that the deliveries of the Bobber-styled motorcycle will be delayed. The delay will also extend to the Jawa and Forty Two in the company’s line-up. The Jawa Perak is powered by a 334 cc single-cylinder motor tuned for 30 bhp and 31 Nm of peak torque. The engine is already BS6 compliant and the Perak is priced at Rs 1.94 lakh (ex-showroom).
