This Suzuki Jimny has been modified into a pickup truck by Shropshire Quads from UK and it is by far the best farm runabout we have ever seen. Wasn’t the Jimny always meant to be exactly that?
Over time, we have been bringing you some beautifully modified Suzuki Jimnys, from hardcore off-roader to even performance oriented ones. This one is however quite different. This Suzuki Jimny has been modified into a pickup truck and we haven’t seen another one that has been done better. Suzuki themselves had displayed an official mod at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon in which the Jimny was transformed into a pickup concept and this one largely seems inspired from that.
This Suzuki Jimny has been modified by an aftermarket company called Shropshire Quads who are based out of UK. Its a family-run mod shop that particularly specializes in converting Jimnys to pickup trucks by lifting the vehicle up and adding a metal tub to the rear. This Jimny is in fact the first mod-job that Shropshire Quads has done on the new generation Jimny. Now Suzuki produces some factory-made pickup conversion kits for some international markets and the mod-shop has basically ordered the same from Suzuki Austria. Shropshire is also the sole distributor of this conversion kit in the UK.
The rear portion of the Jimny has been completely chopped off to make way for the conversion kit. Once the rear portion has been done away with, there’s way to revert back to the original body style. So you must be extremely sure of what you are doing. The conversion kit comes with a metal rear bulkhead panel that even comes fitted with a heated rear screen. The plastic side mouldings around the kit and over the body of the Jimny make the transition appear much smoother. It even gets a recessed fuel filler that is mounted with cast aluminum. Completing of the looks are the large wheels that come fitted with all-terrain tires.

Back home, we are soon going to get our own version of the Suzuki Jimny which will not be a pickup but will have five doors. With two additional doors, the Jimny will have a longer wheelbase in India and while that will definitely affect the off-roaders ability over rough terrain, it will surely appeal to the family buyers in our country. Other than a couple of extra doors, the India-spec Jimny will continue with other basic ingredients of the 3-door Jimny. That includes a ladder frame chassis, rigid axles at both ends and a four-wheel drive system with low-range transfer case.

The India-spec 5-door will come powered by the 105hp, 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that can also be found in the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Ertiga and Vitara Brezza. The Jimny will be sold out of Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa outlets and it is expected to be priced from just around Rs 10 lakh. For the money, the Jimny would go up against off-roaders like the Force Gurkha and Mahindra Thar and could also be considered an alternative to like-priced compact SUVs, Maruti’s Vitara Brezza included.
