This Mahindra Thar has been modified to look like a Jeep Wrangler and it does a very convincing job in looking like the older-gen Wrangler if not the new one. What are your opinion about this modification?
The Mahindra Thar is one of the most modified vehicles on Indian roads and almost every owner who ever buys a Thar will surely do at least one modification on the SUV. It is also an extremely popular off-road vehicle and most modifications on the Thar are usually to enhance its off-road appeal and capabilities. In fact, its almost impossible to find a Thar in stock condition in the country. We have featured several modified Mahindra Thar’s over time and here again, we have come across a tastefully modified example and you should definitely have a look at it.
One of the most popular modifications that are done on Thar’s are the ones that make it look closer to the Jeep Wrangler and this one has been treated exactly that way. Modified by Azad 4×4, this Mahindra Thar does a great job in looking like a Wrangler. The Thar already has a silhouette that’s very close to the Wrangler and with just a few more details, it’s not very difficult to build a convincing Wrangler out of a Thar. On this particular model, the grille has been modified to look as close to the ones on the Wrangler and even gets silver inserts around the vertical slats.
The headlights and the turn indicators get a chrome garnish and the front bumper is also new and comes with integrated fog lamps and a silver skid plate. In fact, the face of this Thar looks surprisingly close to the old-gen Thar. It even comes with a Jeep badge above the grille. The bonnet too has been re-profiled to look like that of the Jeep and it even gets hood locks similar to the one on the Wrangler.

One of the most distinguishing styling elements on the original Jeep has to be its flared wheel arches and that has been replicated quite well here in this Thar. Although the modifiers have also fitted turn indicators on the wheel arches, they surely do not look anywhere near the original. The previous-gen Thar came fitted with a soft-top roof from the factory but this Thar gets an after market hard-top roof with the window section identical to the one on the Wrangler. The dual-tone black and red paint scheme is also something we see on the Wrangler a lot.

This modified Thar is sitting on aftermarket black alloy wheels shod with off-road tires and it looks very cool indeed. At the rear, the Thar gets a split tail gate setup just like the Wrangler and it has been executed very neatly indeed. The tail lamps are new LED units and there’s a tail gate mounted spare wheel as well. The rear bumper is also an aftermarket unit with a silver skid plate. Overall, this Thar does look convincingly like a Wrangler from quite a few angles. The interiors get front facing seats for the second row but there does not seem to be any mechanical modification under the hood.
