Suspended BJD MLA Prasant Jagdev is custody after he drove his Land Rover Discovery Sport into a gathering injuring at least 22 people.
Prasant Jagdev, a suspended BJD MLA is under arrest after he rams his Land Rover into a crowd injuring several people. The FIR against him has been registered at Banapur town in Khurda District, Bhubaneswar. The list of injured persons includes 10 Policemen and 2 Journalists. The incident took place on March 12, 2022, near Banapur town which is around 100 km away from the capital of Odisha. Here are the details of the entire episode.

MLA Rams Land Rover Into The Crowd
The video clip in the tweet shared by Ashmita Chhabria shows a brief glimpse of what actually transpired that day. The crowd is seen on the ground with some policemen among them. Suddenly, the SUV is seen being driven right into the gathering indiscriminately. Although the video clip is quite short, the injuries to the people could be visibly expected. As soon as the SUV hits some people, chaos ensued and people are seen flocking for their lives in the visuals. The Banapur Police Station Inspector-in-charge RR Sahu and a local woman were seriously injured and were taken to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. The local people beat the MLA brutally after the incident and he, too, has been rushed to AIIMS.
Reportedly, this is not the first time the MLA has been involved in something of this nature. He was earlier suspended from the party for allegedly attacking a Dalit leader of the opposition party, BJP. Back in 2006, he had allegedly assaulted a BJP worker. In another incident, he was reported to have attacked Bolgarh Tehsildar in 2018 and a staff member of the Chilika Development Authority in 2020.

BJP is demanding strong action against the MLA. Once the MLA is discharged from the hospital after his treatment, he will be under arrest. What happens next will be strictly according to the judicial course.
