Mitsubishi, the company that has been known to manufacture some of the best driver’s cars has not fared well in India, and many of its decisions are to blame. Its iconic Lancer and the performance hungry Lancer Cedia have been discontinued in India and the same holds true for the Outlander. It witnessed dismal sales due to the lack of a diesel motor. But one car that has always done well for the company in India is the Pajero, which was joined in by the Pajero Sport later on and gave the Fortuner a run for its money. The Pajero Sport has been pretty popular amongst buyers in the Rs 20-25 lakh segment in India ever since its launch back in 2012, now news is coming in that the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Automatic might be on its way to our shores.

The Pajero Sport is all set to get an automatic sibling in the fiscal year 2014-15. The news comes courtesy Mr. CK Birla who is the chairperson of the CK Birla group of whose Hindustan Motors, which in turn has a partnership with Mitsubishi India. The company’s Chennai facility is used to assemble the Pajero Sport in India. The car was first launched via the CBU route but was then assembled here via the CKD route which brought down the price of the SUV considerably.
The Pajero Sport comes with a 2.5 litre diesel motor that pumps out a maximum power of 178 BHP and a peak torque of 400 NM. The power is sent to all the wheels via the Super Select 4WD system mated to a 5 speed manual transmission and the car is available only in a single trim in the country. The automatic gearbox will be the INVECS-II 5-speed automatic with Sportronic in all likelihood. This is the same as available in Thailand for the diesel motor and seeing India gets kits from Thailand so this will be the automatic transmission unit.
And that is not all. Mitsubishi is all set to launch another SUV in the next fiscal and the company’s focus will be on the various SUV segments only in India. It will be the 2014 Outlander in all likelihood and we hope that Mitsubishi gives it a diesel heart this time around to find some takers for it. We can safely expect Mitsubishi to showcase both the models at the 2014 Auto Expo in February.
