In our last post on Mitsubishi and its Lancer brand we talked much about the success of Mitsubishi Lancer in India, the launch of Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X and most importantly, the expected Hybrid variant of the Evo X.
Then it was just a speculation that in the future we might see a hybrid version of the Evo X, which is a performance car but lately Mitsubishi president Osamu Masuko confirmed this news to British motoring magazine Autocar. As per Mr. Masuko the next generation Mitsubishi Evo XI is due in three years and will feature a hybrid powertrain.
“We will start work on the project next year, and it will be ready within three. I have set the goal of developing a sporting car featuring electric power,” Masuko told Autocar.
Although Masuko hasn’t confirmed it, Autocar says that the car will be a diesel-hybrid. The company had considered many hybrid technologies but diesel hybrid unit seems to be the most promising one as it would not only comply with the highly tightened emission norms but will ensure the same power packed performance as delivered by the ongoing Evo.
Speculations say that the incorporation of electric and diesel technologies will help this car attain 0 to 100 km/hr sprint in under 5 seconds, yet pull down the emissions to an impressive 200 g/km. Along with the new powertrain will come an upgraded S-AWC four-wheel drive system, which integrates braking, steering and traction control.
For the whole year the Evo has been the subject of debate and now that the news is confirmed i believe the car would turn out to be an inspiration for other performance cars.
