MG Motors will launch the ZS EV with a special introductory price for the first 1000 customers and will be closing bookings for the ZS EV on January 17.
The MG ZS EV was unveiled in India on December 5 and now, MG Motors have announced that they are going to launch the ZS EV in India on January 27. MG Motors had started taking bookings for the ZS EV from December 21 but now they are soon going to close bookings for the car from tomorrow. The MG ZS EV will be sold in India as a completely knocked down (CKD) product and will be assembled at company’s Halol plant in Gujarat, alongside the Hector SUV.
MG Motors will initially be selling the ZS EV in only five cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad – as India still does not have a proper charging infrastructure all throughout the country. Also, just like MG Motors did with the Hector, they plan to introduce the ZS EV at a “special introductory price for the first 1,000 customers”, according to the company. The Hector also saw a similar strategy where the SUV was launched at an introductory price of Rs 12.18-16.88 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and was then hiked by Rs 30,000-40,000 a few months after the initial launch.
Another similarity with the Hector is that MG Motors will offer MG Shield with the ZS EV as well. Its a special aftersales initiative which is called the eShield and as part of the package, ZS EV owners will be offered free of charge 5 year/unlimited km manufacturer warranty on the vehicle and an 8 year/1,50,000 km warranty on the lithium-ion battery. eShield also encompasses 24×7 roadside assistance (RSA) for a period of 5 years, applicable only for private buyers.
The ZS EV is powered by a synchronous motor that produces 141 bhp and 353 Nm of peak torque. The car gets a 44.5 kWh battery pack that promises a maximum range of about 340 km on a single charge, and the ZS EV can go from 0-100 kmph in just 8.5 seconds. The lithium-ion unit can be charged up to 80 per cent in 40 minutes with a 50 kW DC charger, or takes up to seven hours with a standard 7.4 kW AC charger.

The 50 kW DC fast charger will be available at MG dealerships across the country. MG has tied-up with Fortum India to install the charging network and to create a better infrastructure for EVs in India. Meanwhile, the standard 7.4 kW AC charger will be installed by MG Motors at your home or office. MG is even providing a portable charging cable with the ZS EV that can be plugged into any 15 ampere electrical socket. MG also plans to create a charging network across its dealerships in select satellite towns along key routes and also provide “charge-on-the-go” facilities to prospective owners.

The MG ZS EV is expected to cost about Rs. 22 lakhs (ex-showroom) when it sees its launch on January 27 and it will directy compete against the Hyundai Kona.
