The Chinese-owned British car marque has introduced a creative pricing strategy to entice more buyers
MG Windsor EV has set a record for bagging 15,176 bookings on the first day for any passenger EV in India. That is an indication of how well the customers are receiving it. The electric crossover has been launched with the industry-first BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service). Essentially, you can purchase the vehicle and rent the battery to bring the initial cost down significantly. That is why MG has been able to launch it at Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom with Rs 3.5 per km as battery rental. The latter must be paid to MG each month depending on the usage. That has wooed many new consumers. Let us get into the details of this case.
MG Windsor EV Receives 15,176 Bookings
MG has announced that the Windsor EV has bagged 15,176 bookings on the very first day. You can order one by paying a token amount of Rs 11,000 at your nearest MG dealership or online. The deliveries are slated to commence from October 12, 2024. Speaking on this occasion, Satinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Commercial Officer, JSW MG Motor India, said, “We are grateful to our customers who have embraced the MG Windsor wholeheartedly and enabled it to reach the milestone of 15,176 bookings in just one day. This achievement solidifies MG Windsor’s position as a progressive force in India’s electric vehicle market. As the first EV to reach this benchmark, the MG Windsorโs popularity underscores the increasing demand for sustainable, cost-effective, and rider-friendly transportation choices among Indian car buyers. We are delighted to contribute to this evolution, and remain committed to delivering innovative, intelligent, and eco-friendly mobility solutions.”

Price
I believe the main reason for this immense demand for the MG Windsor EV is the pricing. If you wish to purchase the EV without a battery, the costs range from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh, ex-showroom. There are three variants on offer – Excite, Exclusive and Essence. With these prices, you need to rent the battery at Rs 3.5 per km of usage. There are other plans also which you can choose as per your application. On the other hand, MG is also offering the EV along with the battery. In that case, the prices start at Rs 13.50 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 15.50 lakh, ex-showroom. Also, you can opt for an assured buyback plan under which you can return the EV back to MG after 3 years and get 60% of the value of the origianl EV. Hence, a wide range of potential buyers get access to the EV.
