MG Motors will sell the Maxus D90 with a different name in India and it will be the company’s new flagship that is scheduled for launch around Diwali 2020.
MG Motors started their India innings last year and they have had quite some success till now. The Hector has been a great hit and MG Motors will soon be launching their second product, the ZS EV in India on January 27. MG also has big plans for the upcoming 2020 Auto Expo. MG Motors have announced that they are going to showcase as many as 14 cars at the Auto Expo and we can tell you that one of them is going to be the Maxus D90 SUV. It is going to be MG’s new flagship in India which will launch with a new name for our market.
The D90 is scheduled to be launched in India by Diwali 2020. The D90 is already on sale in some Asian markets under the Maxus brand name. Its also sold in Australia as the LDV 90. Just like MG Motors, Maxus is also a subsidiary of SAIC. The D90, when its launched in India will be full-size SUV with three rows of seating and it will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavor and Mahindra Alturas G4 in India.
Just like its rivals, the D90 is also built on a ladder-frame chassis. In terms of dimensions, the D90 measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width, 1,875mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,950mm. That makes the D90 even larger than the Alturas G4. You can thus expect tons of space on the inside.
If we are to go by the international-spec D90, then it comes very well kitted on the interiors. Expect MG Motor’s version of Maxus D90 to come with 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, three-zone climate control, cooled/heated seats, a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera on the range topping trims. It is also equipped with safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist and the automatic parking function. The SUV for India is expected to at least sport six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and Isofix child-seat mounts.

In China, the Maxus D90 comes powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine which makes 224hp and 360Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. However, the D90 with this engine will not generate much sales in India. MG’s parent company SAIC was working on a new 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that will produce 218hp and 480Nm of peak torque. Now this is an engine that will resonate better with the Indian audience.
