Originally, SAIC will retail MG badged SUVs in the Indian market. The reworked Baojun 530 will be a B-Segment SUV, taking on the likes of Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV 500 and Jeep Compass.
Following Baojun 530, MG Motors plans to launch a couple more SUVs. The list includes a sub-4-metre SUV, an Electric SUV and a C-Segment SUV. MG Motors plans to launch all these SUVs by 2022.
The Indian version of Baojun 530 will look completely different from the Chinese-spec. The design work, cabin as well as the badging would be different. At the front, it gets a ‘Star Ryder’ grille, which is seen on the elder MG3 and MG6 SUVs.
Most likely, MG SUV will get a 1.5 Litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0 Litre diesel engine. The diesel unit will be the Multijet diesel engine, sourced from Fiat. The engine would be a bit rejigged for the MG SUV.

For transmission purposes, it is most likely to get a 6-speed manual gearbox along with an optional CVT unit for both the engines. Another set of rumours rule out the option of a manual transmission, suggesting that the diesel might come with a regular torque converter unit.
MG Motors also plans to introduce a sub-4-metre SUV to rival the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Mahindra S201. The C-Segment SUV will be launched to rival against Hyundai Creta.
MG Motors recently unveiled MG eZS Electric SUV at the Guangzhou Motor Show 2018. Reportedly, it will make its way to the Indian markets by 2020.
Another report states that MG Gloster (First SUV) will get BS-6 engines right from the launch. Instead of updating later, this comes as a good strategy. The emission norms are set to kick in from April 2020.
