If this turns out to be true, then in comparison to other petrol powered SUV in the market, the Hector is going to be the least powerfull. For instance, the 2.0-litre engine in the Hyundai Tucson churns out 155 BHP of power while the one in the Honda CR-V, is capable of producing 154 BHP of power.
That said, if we compare the torque outputs, then the MG hector emerges are the clear winner with 250 NM on tap in comparison to 192 NM of the Tucson and the 189 Nm of the CR-V. However, the Jeep Compass emrges as a clear winner in comparison to these three with its 1.4-litre turbocharged engine producing 165 BHP of power with 250 Nm of peak torque.
Talking about the diesel engine of the MG Hector, the same is going to be a fiat-sourced, 2.0-litre unit. This is the same engine which currenty does its duty on the Jeep Compass. And is capable enough to produce 170 BHP of power along with 350 Nm of peak torque.
The MG Hector is going to launch in India within the first half of this year. Its prices are likely to fall in-between the range of INR 12 lakh to INR 18 lakh. With this, its primary competition will include the likes of Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV 500 and Jeep Compass.
