The MG Gloster facelift has been spied testing yet again. Gloster is the flagship SUV from the Chinese-owned British carmaker in India. It locks horns with the mighty Toyota Fortuner in our market. Unfortunately, it has struggled to fetch huge sales from its inception. The trust of people in the reliability of the Fortuner was just too high. Hence, even though the Gloster was a much better feature-equipped SUV, it never became a popular choice among buyers. Perhaps, the facelift model could do the trick and the launch might take place in the coming weeks.
MG Gloster Facelift Spied
This post comes from cruiser_rider01 on Instagram. It captures the large SUV doing rounds on public roads wearing a thick camouflage. In the first part of the video, the rear section is visible. It gets a tall boy stance with a meaty bootlid area. It looks like the SUV gets a split-LED taillamp cluster with reflector lights on the extreme edges of the bumper. The bumper is quite chunky but what attracts my attention is the dual exhaust tip setup. Apart from that, there is a roof-mounted spoiler and a rear wiper to complete the rear profile.
On the sides, one gets to witness an elegant design for the alloy wheels and a sturdy side step for easier ingress and egress for the passengers. Compact roof rails are also visible on the sides along with the large glass windows. At the front, it seems like it gets the LED DRLs on the bonnet and the main headlamp unit on the bumper. That hints at a new layout in comparison to the existing model. Also, the grille at the centre looks colossal and the bumper carries a sporty outlook. All in all, the demeanour of the SUV is clearly there and people would get attracted to its road presence.
Specs
In terms of the specifications, I don’t expect any major changes. Hence, we will most likely continue to get the 2.0-litre diesel engine in two configurations – single turbo and twin turbo. The power and torque outputs stand at a decent 163 PS / 375 Nm and 218 PS / 480 Nm, respectively. The transmission duties are carried out by a sporty 8-speed automatic transmission. The lower trims get a 4×2 drivetrain, while the higher trims offer impressive off-roading capabilities to the owners via a 4×4 drivetrain. At the moment, the large SUV ranges from Rs 38.80 lakh to Rs 43.87 lakh, ex-showroom. The facelift model could bear a slight premium over these.
