The Indian electric car market has been expanding rapidly as we prepare for more launches
The MG Cyberster has been officially teased with its iconic scissor doors for the first time ever. Note that the electric sports car has been launched in a few international markets already. At the upcoming Bharat Auto Expo in January 2025, we will most likely get the first glimpses of it for the Indian market. MG currently sells 3 EVs in India – Comet EV, ZS EV and Windsor EV. It has also introduced the industry-first BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) model which allows owners to rent the battery, effectively reducing the high initial costs. For now, let us take a look at the details of the EV here.
MG Cyberster Shows Off Its Scissor Doors
The official video highlights the exterior design of the EV. It starts with flowing curves on the bonnet which defines the road presence of this sensuous sports car. In fact, the two-seat layout perfectly gels with the overall demeanour of the vehicle. However, the main talking point is those sporty scissor doors which have graced some of the most iconic vehicles of the past. Owners will get multiple options to operate these doors including key fob and touch/buttons on the central console. Even the tail section looks sleek and modern. All in all, this has to be one of the most beautiful vehicles on sale in the country.
It will be interesting to see which specifications it comes with. Going by the international model, it will most likely carry a 77 kWh battery pack which sends power to electric motors for an all-wheel-drive configuration. This will result in a total output of 536 hp and 726 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This propels the voluptuous electric sports car from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.2 seconds which is mighty impressive. MG claims a range of 585 km on a single charge. You can charge it using a DC fast charger in just 40 minutes, while the home AC charger will take 4 hours to complete the same task. More details will emerge at the Auto Show.
My View
I am curious to witness a unique electric sports car like the MG Cyberster in our market soon. It will offer yet another alternative for the celebrities in this top-end of our market. Since it will be a full import, expect exorbitant pricing. Hence, it will rival the premium electric vehicles on sale in our market. Let us keep an eye out for more details about this enticing electric sports car.
