Likely to launch next month, the MG Comet EV will be based on the Wuling Air EV sold abroad and should offer the same specifications and features
Last year, it came to light that MG India plans to introduce a compact electric car based on the Wuling Air EV. Sold abroad as a mini electric car for urban use, the Air EV could become the one the most affordable electric cars in India. Now, the carmaker has announced the name of its upcoming model as ‘Comet’. The city car has been named after the 1934 British airplane which participated in the England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race.

MG Comet to be Based on Wuling Air EV
The MG Comet is likely to measure pretty much the same as the international version, which means we’re looking at a pretty compact package here. For reference, the Wuling Air EV is less than 3-metre long, which means it’s shorter than the Nexon EV by over a metre. Resultantly, even the wheelbase is pretty quite short at around 2-metre for the EWB version. The compact dimensions clearly indicate the upcoming model being a strict city runabout. In fact, MG India itself asserts that the Comet is here to ease driving in urban environment whilst offering its users with agility and low running costs.
It’s a bit early to hope for the official specifications but the Wuling Air EV is sold with two battery-pack options – a 17.3 kWh and a 26.7 kWh. The bigger battery has a range of up to 300 km, while the smaller one is good for 200 km on a full charge. The city car has a peak power of 41 PS.

Features
In spite of its compact dimensions, the MG Comet is likely to offer a lot of equipment. The highlights would include two 10.25-inch touchscreens (one for the instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment system), faux leather upholstery, connected car technology, steering-mounted audio and telephone controls, climate control and keyless entry. The safety kit would include dual airbags, ABS with EBD and a rear parking camera.
