SAIC-GM-Wuling is all set to launch the Baojun Yep EV. While it did not show up at the recently concluded 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, the electric SUV has started arriving at the Baojun dealerships in China. The 3-door mini electric car is based on the MG Comet. It is touted as a direct rival of the immensely popular Suzuki Jimny in the international market. Baojun Yep Looks A Lot Like The 3-door Suzuki Jimny
The Baojun Yep is designed to handle off-roading trips alongside everyday commuting needs. It comes with the capacity to seat four passengers. The Baojun Yep features a similar design to the 3-door Suzuki Jimny. The similarity is across the front grille section, front bumper, and squared wheel arches. However, it features curvier and more aerodynamic bodywork. While the upcoming EV gets futuristic-looking headlamps, it features a more conventional flat roof with roof rails. The Baojun Yep also has a unique rear profile.
In terms of dimension, the Baojun Yep EV measures 3,381 x 1,685 x 1,721mm and has a wheelbase of 2,110 mm. In comparison, the 3-door Jimny measures 3,395 x 1,475 x 1,725mm. It comes with a wheelbase of 2,250 mm. So, the Baojun Yep will likely come with a more spacious cabin. It will be available in five color options – The Sunrise, Early Morning, Cloud, Neon, and Deep Space (Yellow, Green, White, Pink, and Black. As you can see, the company is not offering any dual-tone color options.

Features
The upcoming electric car will feature a large curved screen with an infotainment section on the right and the instrumentation on the left. There’s a cartoon character that works as the digital assistant. The Baojun Yep EV comes with a large, round steering wheel. The top-spec variant will be equipped with a ‘car watch’ on the back. It features a 300 x 256 mm digital screen (placed on the left side) that can be used to display various pictures, DIY text and videos. It can also display warnings for hazards on the road.

Baojun Yep EV Specs
The Baojun Yep EV is backed by a 28.1 kWh LFP battery. It has a single electric motor offering 68 hp of max power and 140 Nm of peak torque. The electric SUV comes with a top speed of 100 kmph. It can travel up to 303 kilometers on a full charge (based on CLTC). The Baojun Yep EV will come with a starting price of around 90,000 Yuan (approx Rs 10.64 lakh). Currently, there is no information about the Indian price tag or launch date. However, with the growing interest in EVs, it might not be a bad idea. Recently, the MG Comet EV has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh.
