The micro electric car has been launched in a new Blackstorm avatar which will serve as the new top model in the lineup
In this post, we are comparing the base model of the MG Comet EV with the new top model (Blackstorm). Comet is the most affordable mass-market EV on sale in India today. Correspondingly, it bears compact dimensions which make it ideal for city usage. Owners can manoeuvre it around effortlessly and even park in tight spaces. These are some common characteristics of urban conditions. That is the aim with which MG launched it back in 2023. As it gains a decent market share, MG has introduced a new sporty top trim.
MG Comet EV Base Model vs Top Model (Blackstorm) – Price
The MG Comet EV base model starts at an attractive Rs 5 lakh, ex-showroom + Rs 2.5 per km battery rental. This price is ideal if you want a low initial cost and would rather pay a monthly rental for the battery as per the usage. If you wish to purchase the car with the battery up front, this price increases to Rs 7 lakh, ex-showroom. On the other hand, the new MG Comet EV Blackstorm is on sale for Rs 7.80 lakh, ex-showroom + Rs 2.5 per km battery rental. This means that you can have the entire package for Rs 9.80 lakh, ex-showroom. Hence, there is a significant difference of Rs 2.80 lakh, ex-showroom between the two. This is a huge amount for a car which starts at Rs 5 lakh.

Specs
Finally, both these models share the powertrain specifications. That makes it fair for every potential customer who wishes to get their hands on the MG Comet EV. Hence, we see the IP67-rated 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which powers the electric motor to generate a decent 41 hp and 110 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This allows a claimed range of a healthy 230 km on a single charge. That should suffice for most urban commutes. The Comet EV uses MG’s GSEV platform. With a 3.3 kW AC charger, the battery takes 7 hours to charge fully, while with a 7.4 kW charger, it takes just 3.5 hours to go from 0 to 100%.

My View
Now it could be a bit tricky to choose between these two variants. The main reason is the fact that the specifications are identical. This means that the range, charging, power and torque figures will remain the same regardless of which variant one goes for. Therefore, the main price difference comes in the form of exterior styling and elements, along with the in-cabin amenities. Hence, if you want a vehicle with all the latest bells and whistles and have a slightly flexible budget, going for the MG Comet EV top model (Blackstorm) is the right approach for you. On the other hand, if budget is your priority, then the base model comes with the most fundamental functions to pamper the users. The decision will depend on your preferences and needs.
