MG Astor is the only car in the segment to offer Level 2 ADAS functions to aid the driver. However, it has not been tested for safety just yet.
An incident has come to light on the internet where an MG Astor hits the traffic lights pole at high speed. Astor is the Creta rival from MG belonging to the highly lucrative and popular mid-size SUV segment. MG has attracted Indian customers by offering stylish SUVs with internet and connectivity features. It deployed the same strategy while introducing the Astor in our market with the segment-first Level 2 ADAS functions. With such active safety features, it will be interesting to witness how the SUV tackles unpredictable circumstances.

MG Astor Hits Traffic Lights Pole
This video clip has been uploaded by Nikhil Rana on his YouTube channel. He keeps posting such cases to raise awareness among Indian car buyers regarding the safety performance of popular cars. According to the information provided to him, the Astor hit the traffic lights pole at a speed of around 80 km/h. There were 3 occupants in the car and the driver was new. He/she accidentally pressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake and the SUV sped away and hit the pole from one side.

The images show the pole being disrupted from the ground indicating the severity of the impact. However, there is not much damage sustained by the car. Also, the passengers were reported to be scratchless despite the high speed. This could well be positive signs about the safety rating of the car.

The MG Astor comes with the option of either a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine making 140 PS and 220 Nm or a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 110 PS and 144 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. The turbo petrol comes with a sole 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox while the regular petrol comes with either a 5-speed manual or an 8-speed CVT gearbox. The prices of the Astor range from Rs 9.98 lakh and Rs 17.73 lakh, ex-showroom. The rivals include the popular Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun.
