The new Mercedes Maybach GLS SUV will the new flagship SUV from Mercedes and whilem its based on the standard GLS, it will be tons more opulent and luxurious.
We had earlier reported that Mercedes Benz is working on a Maybach version of the GLS SUV. Now, Mercedes Benz have confirmed that set to reveal its ultra-luxurious Maybach GLS at the upcoming 2019 Auto Guangzhou motor show in China on November 21, 2019. Just like the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, the Maybach badged GLS will be the epitome of luxury and opulence, only sitting much higher this time. It will rival the likes of the Bentley Bentayga, Range Rover SVAutobiography and Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
In terms of design, the Maybach GLS will be pretty similar to the standard GLS but it will get some unique design touches inspired from previous Maybach concepts. Some of the changes from the standard SUV include a new grille, unique graphics for the headlights and tail lights, some added chrome and bespoke wheel designs, to set it apart as the most luxurious SUV Mercedes has to offer.
Mercedes has said its new Maybach SUV will offer “state-of-the-art technology, exceptional comfort and the Maybach design philosophy”. The carmaker has also said that it will offer “plenty of space for first-class front and rear compartments.” The standard GLS is a full size seven-seater SUV but the Maybach GLS will come with four individual seats as standard, with a five-seat layout being available as an option. The Maybach GLS is also expected to come with unique graphics for the infotainment system and the digital instrumentation.

The Maybach GLS is likely to be powered by Mercedes-Benz’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox, with both 4Matic four-wheel drive and Air Body Control air suspension offered as standard. There are talks of a 6.0-litre, V12 twin-turbocharged engine as well but that is yet to be officially acknowledged. Also on the cards are petrol-electric and diesel-electric hybrid drivetrains.

Following its global unveil in China this week, the Mercedes Maybach GLS SUV is expected to go on sale globally in the first-half of 2020. There has been no word yet if the Maybach GLS will come to India. However, if it does arrive, it will rival the likes of the Bentley Bentayga, Range Rover SVAutobiography and Rolls-Royce Cullinan, which are already on sale in India.
