A few days back Audi launched the performance edition Audi S4 at Rs. 45.31 lakhs in India and now its Mercedes-Benz’s turn to show its potential. Today Mercedes Benz has unveiled the performance edition Mercedes C-Class in Mumbai and Hyderabad. The C250 AMG Performance Edition model is developed by Mercedes AMG, Merc’s ’s performance subsidiary.
Since it’s a performance edition lets talk about its engine first. The C250 AMG is a rear wheel driven car which draws its power from a 2143 CC, 4 cylinder CRDi diesel engine, that can deliver peak power output of 204 BHP @ 4200 RPM and peak torque of 500 Nm @ 1600-1800 RPM. The engine is coupled to a 5 speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately the car does not sport an AMG engine instead it uses the same engine that powers the C250 standard.
Beside the AMG engine, the car features the following:
- AMG body kit-including a stainless steel exhaust
- Perforated front disc brakes
- 17-inch AMG 5 spoke alloy wheels
- Sports suspension
- AMG Sports package interiors
- Paddle Shifts
- 3 spoke multi function steering wheel
- Redesigned dashboard
- New gear lever
- Nappa leather
- Black AMG floor mats
- High resolution 4.5 inch TFT colour display
- Brushed Stainless Steel AMG sports pedals
Closest competition to the C250 AMG is the new Audi A4 and the yet to be launched 2012 BMW 3-Series a.k.a F30. Mercedes knows that the current C-Class is outdated now and therefore it is working on the next-generation, bigger and better C-Class, which is expected to hit India in 2014.
Now if you are planning to buy this new baby AMG, you better hurry as Mercedes plans to sell only 100 units of the same. This very year, during the 3rd quarter, Mercedes will be launching the much awaited Mercedes B-Class and will try to penetrate deeper into the market and thereby extract more sales.
At the launch in Hyderabad, Mr. Peter Honegg, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India quoted:
“The C-Class has been one of the most successful sedans from the Mercedes-Benz portfolio and has received overwhelming customer traction since its launch. We have sold close to 15,000 units of the C-Class since its launch in India in 2001. With the launch of the New C-Class AMG Performance Edition; Mercedes-Benz aims to redefine the luxury entry level sedan segment.”
