Mercedes-Benz Rolls Out 200,000th Made-in-India Car
As per the official press release, the Mercedes-Benz EQS electric SUV was the 200,000th Made-in-India car at the Chakan, Pune facility. The local production of the EQS sedan commenced back in 2022, followed by the EQS SUV 580 in 2024. Apart from that, the first Mercedes Maybach S500 was manufactured in India back in 2015. This was the first time ever that the Maybach was made outside Germany. Just for reference, the first 50,000 Mercedes cars took 19 years in our market.
However, the next 100,000 Mercedes cars were manufactured in just 9 years. Finally, the last 50,000 Mercedes cars rolled off the manufacturing line in a matter of just 2 years and 3 months. This showcases a clear trajectory of how rapidly the brand has been growing in India in the last few years. In fact, in April 2025, the German luxury car marque made a whopping 20,000 cars. At present, Mercedes-Benz boasts a rather comprehensive portfolio of 11 models. Also, in 2024, Mercedes made a fresh investment of Rs 200 Crore.
On this momentous occasion, Dr. Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management, said, “Mercedes-Benz’s remarkable milestone of 200,000 ‘Made in India’ Mercedes-Benz cars, underlines India’s potential as a key manufacturing hub in the long run.
