Mercedes-Benz will be launching the 2020 GLE in India in January next year and ahead of its launch, a leaked document reveals the powertrains and features on the India-spec GLE.
Mercedes-Benz globally debuted the all-new GLE way back in 2018. It is finally coming to India in January 2020. Mercedes-Benz had began testing the GLE in India in September and the very next month, they started taking bookings for the new SUV. Now, Mercedes have showcased the GLE to its dealers in India. There’s a leaked images which is rumoured to have come from a closed event, exclusive for Mercedes-Benz dealers.
Thanks to this leaked document, we now know the powertrain options along with what to expect in terms of variants and features from the new GLE that’s slated for launch in January. The leaked documents suggest that Mercedes-Benz will be launching the GLE in two variants: Exclusive and Elite. There’ll be three powertrain options on offer: GLE 300 d, GLE 400 d and GLE 450.
Let’s start with the GLE 300 d. It will be powered by a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine which delivers 245PS and 500Nm of torque. With this engine, the GLE will sprint from 0-100 kph in 7.5 seconds and has a top-speed of 225 kph. The GLE 400 d will be powered by a BS6-complaint 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged diesel engine which puts out 330PS and 700Nm of torque. 0-100 kph takes 5.7 seconds and it can reach a top-speed of 245 kph. According to the leaked documents, this engine will not be offered at the time of launch and will most likely be introduced by April 2020.
Mercedes-Benz is just offering one petrol engine with the GLE 450. It is a 3.0-litre BS6-complaint inline-six engine which puts out an impressive 367PS and 500Nm of torque, helping it achieve the 0-100 kph sprint in 5.7 seconds with a top whack limited to 250kmph. This engine will also gets a 48V mild-hybrid system. All the three engines will be paired to Mercedes’ 9-speed automatic gearbox with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive.

As for the trims, the GLE 300 d will only come in the Exclusive trim while the GLE 400 d and GLE 450 will be offered in the Elite trim. The GLE is a pretty well loaded car in terms of equipment. It will come with a panoramic sunroof, THERMATIC 4-zone automatic climate control, MBUX multimedia infotainment system, 64-colour ambient lighting, active parking assist, 7 airbags, 19-inch wheels, LED headlamps and taillamps. The Elite variant adds MULTIBEAM LED headlamps with ultra range high beam, 4MATIC with variable torque distribution, AIRMATIC suspension, 20-inch wheels, 360-degree camera, electrically adjustable rear seats, and intelligent headlight control plus.

This is the forth generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLE and it is expected to be priced between Rs. 70 lakhs to Rs. 1.05 crores (ex-showroom) in India. The GLE even comes with seven-seats in some international markets but we are unsure if Mercedes-Benz will be offering that option in India. When launched the new GLE will rival the Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 and the BMW X5.
