The electric G-Wagon has been making the headlines in the international market for a long time
The Mercedes-Benz Electric G-Class has finally been launched in India with a price tag of a whopping Rs 3 Crore. This price is for the G560 Edition One trim. We know that the G-Wagon is an iconic name in the world of luxury off-roading SUVs around the globe. In fact, many top celebrities opt for it due to its unique and butch road presence. As the world moves to electrification, we keep witnessing electric iterations of our beloved vehicles. This is a prime example of that. The electric SUV comes with an all-wheel-drive configuration and a quad-motor setup. Let us delve into the specifics of this EV.
Mercedes-Benz Electric G-Class Launched
To ensure adequate power and performance, the electric G-Wagon gets a colossal 116 kWh (usable) battery pack and 4 electric motors (one for each wheel). This results in a massive 587 PS of power and a jaw-dropping 1,164 Nm of peak torque. The German car marque claims a range of 455 km (WLTP) on a single charge. This setup propels the EV from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.7 seconds despite weighing over 3 tons. One can choose between 3 drive modes – Comfort, Sport and Individual. Also, there are 2 off-road modes available – Trail and Rock.
To simulate virtual differential locks, the electric G-Class deploys torque vectoring to send the precise amount of torque in each wheel, as per the requirements. Furthermore, each electric motor gets its own gearbox which includes a switchable low-range setting for incredible capabilities. You might already know about the party trick of the electric G-Wagon which could be quite handy during off-tarmac adventures called the G-Turn. It allows the large SUV to rotate 360 degrees on the spot just like a tank. An impressive 850 mm water wading capacity is enough to cross most water bodies.

Design
In terms of exterior appearance, there aren’t all that many changes in comparison to the ICE G-Wagon. That aligns with the philosophy of “when it ain’t broke, why fix it?” At the front, it gets round LED DRLs integrated inside LED headlamps and a massive grille section with a Tri-star marking finished in chrome. Lower down, the rugged bumper with a black skid plate elevates its imposing demeanour. On the sides, it continues that boxy silhouette with creaseless door panels and black strips. The side steps enhance the ingress and egress characteristics and the 20-inch alloys really accentuate its presence. At the rear, it gets a tailgate-mounted spare tyre casing and elegant LED taillamps with horizontal configuration along with a rugged bumper. All in all, the electric G-Wagon embodies the iconic design language of the G-Wagons of the past.
